  1. I think I'm using the term PRELAP wrong? I'm using it for a VO that starts before that scene begins. Is that correct?

If we hear a character's dialogue a few beats before we see them in a scene, I would use CHARACTER'S NAME (O.S) as opposed to NAME (V.O.) which is a different animal.

  2. Question: I'm looking for screenplays in the vein of Roman Polanski's Repulsion: relatively contained, psychological horror/thrillers with small casts. Also any movies you can suggest similar to Repulsion? Psycho and Black Swan came to mind though they aren't exactly like Repulsion they do exist in a similar plane (main character struggling to maintain their sense of sanity/losing their sanity, etc. Thanks!

  3. Query sent. Query accepted! Fingers crossed!

  4. Fellow TB'ers Dominic Morgan and Matt Harvey who recently sold HYPERARIC and are soon to sell THE CONTROLLER are in town and I had the pleasure of their company last night in Venice. Couple great guys and very talented writers.

  5. Finally saw Prisoners - totally called what they were going to change with re: the finale. Woot, Woot! Go see it if you haven't already!

The version I read had a dream sequence of Jackman escaping from the pit and saving his kid. In the movie Jackman is AWOL for the act three finale.

Rush is a beautifully written, simple, lean script

  7. Why has the new Star Trek not beat the first one's opening weekend, even with 3D and Imax premiums and an 87% critics rating? It had the best trailer of the year. (No spoilers!)

First half V good, then afflicted with generic blockbuster beats. The revival of one of the leading characters at the death was so obviously telegraphed and predictable. You could hear the story structure creaking..

Well done, DD. Make sure you've got a couple of great ideas with the same tone so that when you get deluged by generals you're ready to show them there's plenty more where Tiger came from...

  9. I am speechless. My hard drive on my laptop (where I write) fried today and I lost everything I had been writing for the last 6 months. My heart is crushed. Kids, please for the love of God, go back up your files right now.

Second the external drive solution. For around $40 you can but a caddy that will take laptop or desktop drives. You remove the drive that is unbootable, put it in the caddy, see if you can get another computer to recognise it -- if you're lucky you will be able to read information on the old hard drive even if it doesn't boot. Given what you've lost, it's worth spending the $40 to find out whether you've got a shot or not. Really hope it pans out for you.

  10. Question for the team...want to write a script based on a book that I HATE...which is why I want to write the script and change everything and make it better than it was before. IF I change it enough and make it a totally new story, how do I go about making sure I'm safe? The book is more of an inspiration than a true adaptation...suggestions?

  13. As a reminder guys - all Hit List/Black List files can be found by using the "LISTS" section which has 1-click downloads.

I am a huge fan of the original BBC series and I did wonder what they'd lose by compressing the timeframe. But it works as a movie in its own right. My only problem was envisaging Alec Guinness every time Smiley opened his mouth...

  16. Come home from awesome trip with daughter over the weekend. Power up the laptop. Everything is great. Check a few things and leave the room for 20 minutes. Return to find: OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND. Urgh. Lost zero movie scripts as they are all on my I-Pad & In the CG Arc. All TV which I hadn't uploaded to either is gone. Every script I have been writing for the last year: Gone. 550 gigs of Comics: Gone. All lists more or less gone to current updates before 02/11. Fuck.

don't reinstall anything and look up data recovery solutions. you should be able to slave the hard drive to another computer and have a crack at recovering data. there are companies who will do the job for you but they charge a fair whack. best of luck.

  17. Reading the pilot for "The Killing" right now. This script handles expository dialogue really, really well.

  19. By request - just upped the new "Inherit The Earth: Zombies vs. Robots" file, which also includes the pitch docs and images. Worth a look, to see what a major studio & co. just picked up, and why.

  20. Just uploaded Rabbit and Bridge. Not sure if I should say that here, or in groups?
