The dark humor really was a nice touch. I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard during a horror movie.

      Is the script out there?

It was a fun movie. Why it didn't do better than it did this weekend is surprising to me...

  2. saw HOP. uggh. even my 6 yr old didn't like it...

  3. So in the new STAR WARS trailer, why does Luke say "My father HAS it..." implying Vader is still alive?

Exactly. Amazing how many Star Wars freaks didnt pick that up right away. This is why he sounds so young.

It's not repurposed, he emphasizes "sister" more in RoTJ than he does here. And he adds in the "you have that power" at the end now.

He probably sounds so young because Hamill is an accomplished voice actor.

  4. So KRAMPUS is rated PG-13... I'm thinking that had something to do with the R-rated CRIMSON PEAK failing and the PG GOOSEBUMPS doing pretty well...

I'm not a fan of PG13 (esp. for horror) but there are plenty of great PG13 movies. It comes down to story and, yeah, Goosebumps is the household name. Movies need to be what they are and hopefully find their audience. A PG13 Crimson Peak probably wouldn't work any better than an R-rated Goosebumps.

Wasn't Crimson Peak poorly advertised? Kind of the way Bicentennial Man was. Its marketed as a horror, when really, it's not, from what I've heard.

First THE FINAL GIRLS and now this. Weak.

  5. So now Robin Hood is the latest competing project/spec craze? Again...

Maybe there will be a "what happens after the story ends" craze. Bodes well for my new spec - CINDERELLA: BIBBIDI-BOBBIDI-SHUT YOUR MOUTH I WANT A F*CKING DIVORCE!

      SEA OF LOVE - sorry!

I mean, I had to google Sea of Love, cause it came out when I was 4...Though you've hit on something deeper, TSK: Is there room to reboot old ideas by updating them technologically speaking?

In fairness they don't make these decisions in a vacuum - there is a lot of tracking that goes into it and sometimes the tracking is off but more times than not it isn't (even if a film does better or worse than expected it is still consistent with whether the numbers show the movie will do well or poorly). Of course there are always exceptions... Shawshank.

My horror slate this past weekend was Aftershock, Maniac remake, Lords of Salem. Two Bs and an F. Oh, and rewatching Friday the 13th Part 2 - D-

  12. Why shoot film if your movie is set to premiere on HBO anyway? And at the cost of TWO shooting days...?

That I wouldn't dispute - no matter what the budget, it should be spent wisely. I'm not convinced film is wisely spent.

this is interesting. i heard in an interview with producer joel silver that effects shot cost $80,000, say for speed racer. multiply that by 2,000 fx shots and there's your budget. the numbers sound a little fuzzy but it gives you an idea how money will just explode from the studios when working on the bigger ones.

The film vs. digital debate is all just a manufactured throughline for the show. There is a difference between the two, but it's isn't something Jason hasn't dealt with before. He had the same issue with his short (that got him into the finals) and there, he shot... DIGITAL... to save money. The whole eFilm / Fotokem grading sessions story beats are nonsense to add drama. He's already clearly aware of the tradeoffs of each choice.

  13. Wow - is the spec market really this slow? Is ANYONE taking things out?
