  1. Damn, that BRIGHT trailer is generic... Alien Nation meets Carnival Row?

  2. So this GASP pitch that Par just bought... it's SEA OF LIFE with the gender reversal in the roles. So why not mention that movie?

    1. Escapist

      SEA OF LOVE - sorry!

    2. Nic.Lishko

I mean, I had to google Sea of Love, cause it came out when I was 4...Though you've hit on something deeper, TSK: Is there room to reboot old ideas by updating them technologically speaking?

    3. lauriestark

Yeah, that's a brilliant point! *goes to read old IMDB plot summaries*

  3. So KRAMPUS is rated PG-13... I'm thinking that had something to do with the R-rated CRIMSON PEAK failing and the PG GOOSEBUMPS doing pretty well...

I'm not a fan of PG13 (esp. for horror) but there are plenty of great PG13 movies. It comes down to story and, yeah, Goosebumps is the household name. Movies need to be what they are and hopefully find their audience. A PG13 Crimson Peak probably wouldn't work any better than an R-rated Goosebumps.

    3. RobertCornero

Wasn't Crimson Peak poorly advertised? Kind of the way Bicentennial Man was. Its marketed as a horror, when really, it's not, from what I've heard.

    4. Lonestarr

First THE FINAL GIRLS and now this. Weak.

  4. Why shoot film if your movie is set to premiere on HBO anyway? And at the cost of TWO shooting days...?

That I wouldn't dispute - no matter what the budget, it should be spent wisely. I'm not convinced film is wisely spent.

    3. adlocke

this is interesting. i heard in an interview with producer joel silver that effects shot cost $80,000, say for speed racer. multiply that by 2,000 fx shots and there's your budget. the numbers sound a little fuzzy but it gives you an idea how money will just explode from the studios when working on the bigger ones.

    4. jtthieme

The film vs. digital debate is all just a manufactured throughline for the show. There is a difference between the two, but it's isn't something Jason hasn't dealt with before. He had the same issue with his short (that got him into the finals) and there, he shot... DIGITAL... to save money. The whole eFilm / Fotokem grading sessions story beats are nonsense to add drama. He's already clearly aware of the tradeoffs of each choice.

  5. I was really hoping the GOOD FRIDAY spec was the altar boy version of the FRIDAY movies...

    1. Nic.Lishko

      There's an idea here....

  6. What happened to Mickey Rourke's face?!?!

    1. aphid47

Time, lots of punches, and bad plastic surgery.

    2. GlitterKitty

You forgot drugs, drink and possibly guilt for all the horrible stuff he's (allegedly) done to women over the years.

    3. benskelly2

Reminds me of a saying: After 40, you get the face you deserve.

  7. So in the new STAR WARS trailer, why does Luke say "My father HAS it..." implying Vader is still alive?

    2. benskelly2

Exactly. Amazing how many Star Wars freaks didnt pick that up right away. This is why he sounds so young.

    3. axalon

It's not repurposed, he emphasizes "sister" more in RoTJ than he does here. And he adds in the "you have that power" at the end now.

He probably sounds so young because Hamill is an accomplished voice actor.

    4. David Fakrikian

      David Fakrikian

      He re-recorded the dialogue

  8. so will the new trend be to put "American" in the title of every spec going out?

I was going to go with "American Spec Script"

  9. Wow - is the spec market really this slow? Is ANYONE taking things out?

  10. I'm curious how an unrepped writer got his stuff into producers and studios... any know more?

    1. admin

I assume this is in regards to Override? If so, it was a friend of his who slipped it to development person, who went up ladder, and first look deal went from there. It's the hottest spec of 2015, partially built on the wow factor of it being an unrepped writer who is creating a ton of buzz, and is now taking meetings all over town. But, I'm sure as you read, you saw he's now repped with managers and will prob select agents by tmrw.

    2. Escapist

      Yes thank you!

  11. Wow, BLACK HAT... what happened?

    1. mebishop2001
    2. Preminger

I bet there's a run for sniper scripts now. The Wall is probably getting fast tracked as we speak.

  12. when does the hit list come out?

  13. So now Robin Hood is the latest competing project/spec craze? Again...

Maybe there will be a "what happens after the story ends" craze. Bodes well for my new spec - CINDERELLA: BIBBIDI-BOBBIDI-SHUT YOUR MOUTH I WANT A F*CKING DIVORCE!

    3. admin

Two more I'm hearing are being prepped for the next few weeks. Can't stop - won't stop!

    4. Escapist

seriously? man, glad I didn't touch that one...

  14. Wow... The Strain started so strong. What happened??!

    1. jtthieme

All of its characters started functioning like pawns that serve a certain, forced narrative instead of acting and reacting like normal people.

    2. Mr Cakes
    3. jtthieme

      Well, can't un-see that.

  15. Is the spec market coming back from the dead?? Fingers crossed...

Uh... Did we time travel back to 1994 or something?
