I feel so alone, haha. I don't get it. It's a weak (and shameless) mishmash of Spielbergian 80's cliches with a Tangerine Dream soundtrack (plus nostalgic radio hits, of course) and I'm wondering...what am I missing?? It feels like a hundred bad movies on VHS. Is that the appeal? I'm sincerely baffled.

Any opening credit sequence montages that you liked?

Hard nosed female protagonists that you like. Go.

Would the Whiplash script have beaten Birdman?

Sounds like "Ascending" is the wrong adjective.

Guys- the movie may horrendous or whatever- but let's not make fun of filmmakers still trying to create original content. In a world where derivative garbage like TAKEN or SAFEHOUSE does huge numbers at the box office, let's support movies that actually have ambition. That are trying to give us something new. Rather than flawless films- like TAKEN, like SAFEHOUSE- that trot out the same played garbage.

Is there any advantage/disadvantage entering Nicholl early/reg/late?

Oliver Stone has officially become Putin's most useful idiot. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/oliver-stone-ukraine-protests-truth-760755

It's hard to find a more dangerously misguided director on the planet than Oliver Stone. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/oliver-stone-planning-doc-russian-747366

On Castro-- he's an interesting character. Many Cubans hate his rule, but many others, more so a broad swath of Latin America, look at him, even if they don't agree with all his policies, as a hero of sorts for giving America's govt the finger for last however many decades. This little guy on a little island, standing up to the biggest empire in the world. I think that's more of what Stone was admiring. His standing up to the U.S. government.
