  1. Anyone have a prediction for Age of Extinction's weekend gross?

  2. Anyone see 22 Jump Street? How does it compare to 21 Jump Street?

  3. So The Rover's budget was ~$12 million and it made $69K opening weekend. Probably won't make more than $100K in its total theatrical run. Is there any hope for it to recover its budget? How much money can this movie potentially make on VOD/rental? Could it ever make up for its budget or is it just a dud for the studio?

  4. At this rate, there will be around 70 specs sold this year.- From BL: "Sony Pictures Entertainment acquires science fiction spec script “Leviathan” written by Cole Haddon. Haddon is repped by WME and Anonymous Content. By my count, this is the 30th spec script sale of 2014. There were 53 spec script sales year-to-date in 2013."

  6. Who's reading what? Latest round of WTF should I be reading in my downtime? Looking for new(er) material. 2013/2014. Any recommendations?

  7. If you ever need a good lesson on dialogue, go to a coffee shop/McDonalds in a small town and just listen to how the old folks gossip.

  8. Edge of Tomorrow is really great, original sci-fi. Highly recommend!

  9. Just saw the best pilot I have ever seen. Wow. Wow. Lifetime achievement type work. Shame it'll never air. Amazing.

  10. The number of writers getting signed up with reps off the back of the TB pilot contest is truly amazing

Eh, you guys put a lot of work into it I think you're allowed to vent your frustrations.

@TB, some people are just going to be negative no matter what. At least 'Margie' on there seems to understand it.

  12. Industry joke: "Dude, Paul T Anderson is doing Castlevania." "ARE YOU SERIOUS?!" I open script. "Paul WS Anderson? Oh. That's different."

  13. What do you guys think of the Interstellar trailer? I love the little details like the not-so-pristine hypersleep chambers and the gravitational lensing around the wormhole. Also interesting seeing the small changes Nolan made to his brother's script like Murph being a girl instead of a boy.

  14. In terms of story structure and narrative, In Bruges might be close to perfect.

  15. What are some good examples of a movie/screenplay where a character is an expert at something but had to give it up only to get dragged back to do it once again against his/her will?

Rewatched Swordfish, a bit too over the top especially with that dancing hacking scene.

Someone mentioned Rounders to me last night and I think that might hit the nail on the head.

@Castor, this is definitely not mean to be a "one last job" cliche so I'm hoping to avoid that.

Yes! Sexy Beast is pretty much the type of movie I'm looking for.

@Mysterian, the original or the Nic Cage remake?

@andrewpwoodberry I never saw it, it seemed to get mixed reviews is it good?

  19. Wish it was good screenwriting news to report, but it is still exciting. Got word from Temple that I will be fully funded in my doctorate program this fall! Now I'll have plenty of time to hack out queries to managers lol

  20. What are some other movies like Locke and Buried where the character is essentially in one location for the entire film?

  22. I'm looking for romantic comedy/dramedy movies or scripts about a married couple who break up and get back together at the end of the movie (e.g. The Ex). Any suggestions? Thanks.

  23. While it's certainly not for everybody, I found myself absolutely blown away by Blue is the Warmest Color. The storytelling and dialogue felt raw and unfiltered and the actresses were both great. Highly recommend.

  24. If you are an aspiring screenwriter who wants desperately to tell the stories that pop in your head at all hours of the day, the FUCKING IGNORE all this nonsense, about what is a sale and what isn't. Jesus. The people talking about this the most, won't be around in two years. Get a bottle. Stand in a lightning storm and pray you capture it. Or just write great stuff. You do the math.

Do people really believe screenwriting is a way to get rich quick?

Because uh...there are definitely WAY easier ways to make money than trying to get into screenwriting...
