  1. Writing a spec for Gravity Falls. What other cartoon shows take specs? Anyone know?

      Nic.Lishko

Not that take specs but they are one of the few scripted cartoons that isn't a story boarded show.

    3. ted

      ted

All 22 minute shows are more or less scripted. 11 minutes are mostly storyboarded.

Hey Ted, were you looking for scripts aimed at kids? I thought I remembered us talking about that before...

  2. Very thankful for this community. My pilot is getting read at a few places and I'm preparing a pitch document for it. You guys rock!!!

  3. Just posted my TV pilot to Works in Progress. Would love a female perspective!

That could be something Castor. LA is the correction assumption. Anyone know any bars with a good selection of craft brews?

I'm down. I'm in LA. Beer Belly or Biergarten in Koreatown have a large selection of beers.

Dial M for Murder is mostly in just a room or two. Rear Window too, obviously.

  6. Nolan's next film comes out November 2014. I think I can take an indie from concept to in the can before that movie comes out. That seems like a reasonable good goal!

  7. I'm starting to think we need a new kickstarter that doesn't allow you to post if your networth is over 2 million...Like Slamdance to Sundance!

Glad to hear it was a good flick. He went on a little rant and got over it lol. Just the initial idea of kids fighting and using their imaginations is what he says was his idea. But I know there's no grounds there.

    3. axalon

      axalon

Wait did your cousin actually write out a full-length screenplay or did he just have an idea for one?

    4. Nic.Lishko

      Nic.Lishko

He wrote a whole script. I've explained to him that "similar ideas" isn't anything to stand on.

Is this the new JJ Abrams Sci-Fi pilot or an actual place?

    4. Nic.Lishko

      Nic.Lishko

lol. It was just a cool place to hang honesetly. I didn't buy anything. The name (as well as the status) reminded me of the movie Brick.

Ignore the source, here's my pitch:

10 people get picked to be on a reality show sent to Mars. It's shot like Blair Witch/Apollo 18, it's a lot like Halloween: Resurrection with a touch of Dead Space the game. Oh and somehow Bioshock is in there.

    2. Nic.Lishko

      Nic.Lishko

And on the way, people start disappearing and going insane....so maybe it's a lot more like And Then There Were None.....F who wouldn't buy that?!

    3. dsjones

      dsjones

The twist is they're in a hollywood studio and no where near mars.

Been 6 months for me. Moved, had comp issues, new job, no software, etc. Luckily my bro picked up the slack. And I've been outlining and doing story notes like mad. But, FD is on sale at Writers Store, so my drought will end this weekend! Can't wait!

When I get "stuck" I just write a scene of something completely unrelated to whatever it is I'm working on -- like a James Bond intro or maybe Michelle Yeoh kicking some ass... whatever forces creativity.. and then I transition into project at hand. Maybe I still end up with crap but you know you sometimes gotta get it all out before the gems emerge. Write on!

  18. Can I get a script recommendation? Trying to read two more before the month is over...

Thanks Cole! I had already read this one actually. One thing I remembered immediately was how sparse the descriptions of the minor characters and how they were all unique. I'll read it again for sure. Thanks for the post!

      ThaVillain

I don't think anyone ever hated on flashbacks, its just that you see them done terribly and pointlessly a lot. Same with opening a script with a flash forward. If it serves no purpose, axe it.

    3. StringerBell

      StringerBell

I don't like them as a general rule and almost never use them. They are easy to make funny, imo, but they take me out of the story.

Thanks for all the thoughts and responses everyone. At this point, it definitely was a hardware fail. I do some computer work on the side so I actually took the sucker apart myself. One of the components had actually SCRATCHED the disc where memory is stored. So unfortunately I lost a lot, but the good news is that i had been emailing myself to read drafts whilst at work. So I didn't lose as much as i thought i did, but I still lost a lot. Thanks for all the suggestions!!

Big fan of Dropbox. Change your FD or Screenwriter default save folder to Dropbox and all will be well.

      electroglodyte

Dropbox is definitely a good option. I also use Carbonite, 40 bucks a year, and it uploads everything invisibily in the background. That's my last ditch defense against hard drive failures or loss of the computer.

  22. Kicking my old writing blog back into gear. Let me know if you have any ideas for a topic I could write about! http://scripteatingtree.blogspot.com/

How about giving each character their own unique way of speaking. I wish I was better at it and the vast majority of amateur scripts have the characters all speaking the same way.

  24. After several recommendations to watch A Simple Plan, I got a group together and watched it. 4 of the 5 people HATED it. Said they don't like movies that make you think. This is your audience talking. I liked it though...

Yes to most of what was said. You're the best diet green tea, i swear I'll send you a case of lipton one day.

They said they weren't ready for a serious movie and they wanted to laugh and that movies that bum you out don't have a purpose.
