  1. THANK YOU TB WHITE!

  2. The Knick is such a damn good show. Probably my favorite of the year. Only 3 eps in, but this would be my reason for buying cinemax.

You want to see a truly brilliant show? See Peaky Blinders. Best TV since... well... forever. You will NOT be disappointed. :)

craktactor is right. Peaky is superb.

  3. The only thing I've heard out of Sundance is the Kevin Smith thing. Have there been any good gems found in them mountains?

Still trying to digest "I Melt With You" The other three I saw yesterday were hardly worth mentioning. Only taking in Son Of No One & Flypaper today. Was in the early screening of the former and am reserving judgement.

So Of No One still sucked. Flypaper okay. Nothing we haven't seen before. All and all this has got to be the worst Sundance Lineup in ages. Just awful. Glad it's over.

I said "pretty" good. Not amazing :D. I was hoping for much more scary moments, it felt a little too...planned if you will. Also, I think it might be trying to be Lost...

    4. mikeyP_73

      mikeyP_73

I saw the original cut and I wasn't too impressed. I think it's hard to capture that scared in a movie theatre experience with all the lights shut out feeling... and all the POV / Found Footage camera angles/setups seemed to blah

  5. The Three Misforunes of Geppetto is like Big Fish crossed with The Princess Bride. 30pages in, I like it a lot :D

  6. The trailer for Side Effects (aka This Bitter Pill) was hysterical to me, because I know what happens on page 40ish...SPOILERS IN COMMENT

Because channing tatum's character dies like 40 minutes into the film and the trailer made it seem like he would be in the entire film. What a strange pull out the rug from under ya kind of lead on!

    2. sangun

      sangun

After the GI Joe: Retaliation debacle you apparently have to make sure Tatum doesn't die in your trailer.

  7. There's something crushingly confusing about reading great specs and learning from them, only to see them actualized in the theaters and get railed over by audiences and critics alike. Read: Nobody. Knows. Anything.

I was so shocked when the first Passengers trailer came out...it looked like a really expensive perfume commercial. Or like that fake movie they were talking about in Thank You For Smoking with Angelina Jolie smoking in space.

This is the second good script Morten Tyldum has made a bland realization of.

  8. They Came Together is a better Saves the Cat than Saves the Cat. Incredibly hilarious. If you love Stella, Naked Gun, Hot Shots, etc. you will love this.

I would think - first draft, a celebratory drink at the end, second draft drinking all the way through because everything now feels so wrong, and third draft a celebratory drink at the beginning for getting there :-)

I don't think the format is dead, but there is some merit to their idea. Viewing habits are changing, studios have so much invested in a film they are afraid to risk alienating the audience with an unsatisfactory ending. I love going to movies, but I am annoyed by the constant glare of cell phones in the crowd. I think theaters will always exist, but very few films on the big screen will have the influence like films of the past.

Predictability is a problem but I just saw a UK Michael Powell film from 1946 which was riveting in story and cinematography (Scorsese loves him)- David Niven in Matter of Life or Death - you're not certain if the drama is real or supernatural till the 2/3 point and perhaps not even then.

    4. stevenaz

      stevenaz

Perhaps a problem for screenwriters and older people who have seen way too many movies. But the core audience is neither. Average movie goer will continue to be entertained IMO.

  14. Today I reviewed If I Stay by Shauna Cross by request. Also, I'm the doctor swinging the light if you watched the POS short film.

  15. Today is Friday, which means it's Chat Day here on TB! No set time at the moment, but let's get some good conversations going!

I just read the pilots for New Girl and The O.C. and both are very strong. New Girl wasn't quite there, but it showed potential. The character of "Coach" had a lot of screen time. No Winston. Was Marlon Wayans Coach in the pilot, and did that air?

  19. Top 5 movies in my opinion of 2010: 5) Despicable Me 4) Tangled 3) The Social Network 2) Toy Story 3 1) True Grit.
