  1. Member Review is going very slow this week. Have started now 4 screenplays and stopped due to poor formatting, spelling and the plot not starting til after pg. 35. No this isn't Django.

  2. Midnight in Paris was wonderful. Very very wonderful.

Can't seem to find Hoof Harrington in the spec section. Or Hells Pass. But shoot, both of those sound great to review.

Gah my bad. I'm on it like a fat kid at a candy store.

  4. Mumford and Sons all day long. Maybe mix in some Mutemath. All together makes a glorious writing playlist :D

Trick with this one is I don't think it hit the town wide as a spec. Seems like an in house set up at Energy.

Arent they all? seems like nothing comes out of EE without Brooklyn attached to produce.

  6. My buddy is the great grand son of the lyricist for The Wizard of Oz and is doing a movie about the music behind the film. Check out his kickstarter! https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-sound-of-oz

    1. Icarus

      Icarus

That is So. Cool. Fun fact: Yip Harburg recycled a lyric that went unused in the film but which survives in the stage production-- "Follow the rainbow over the stream; follow the fellow who follows his dream"-- for a song in "Finnian's Rainbow." This is the only instance I'm aware of in which a lyricist plagiarized himself.

  7. My cousin just lost his shit after seeing the trailer for "I Declare War" proclaiming his script was stolen. Does anyone have the script to read?

Glad to hear it was a good flick. He went on a little rant and got over it lol. Just the initial idea of kids fighting and using their imaginations is what he says was his idea. But I know there's no grounds there.

      axalon

Wait did your cousin actually write out a full-length screenplay or did he just have an idea for one?

    4. Nic.Lishko

He wrote a whole script. I've explained to him that "similar ideas" isn't anything to stand on.

  8. My God. Sometimes you get a script that you gotta read...and you crack it open and it's like...WordPerfect format...

That last Adam Sandler movie I liked -- and that I thought he was giving a lot of effort -- was the first half of Funny People. Bedtime Stories, I thought, was OK for what it wanted to be.

I love when the used books are somehow more expensive than a brand new copy. Also, no review below four stars!

I concur -- Bill's "blue books" are great, and a nice price.

  15. My thoughts on Disciple Program and a rant about specs to go with it in the member section!

  16. Need a comedy spec to read. Tired of reading sci-fi. I mean, I'm not, because I love sci-fi, but I need to read more comedies. Any to recommend?

If you want to take a gander at a first draft of a comedy spec I'm looking to revise, I'd appreciate any thoughts you have.

It's a Rom-com called ROMCOM. You can guess the rest.

      It's here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/oe3h66y7v4rzbj4/romcom-GERNGROSS.pdf.

Feel free to indulge or ignore at your discretion.

The funniest scripts I've read include Wain and Showalter's 'They Came Together', Johnny Rosenthal's 'Iron Jack' and the pilot for 'Hello Ladies', which is significantly funnier (and edgier) than the filmed version.

  17. Never figured out what it was, but I'm thinking I should check out this Exit through the gift Shop thing as people keep recommending it.....

  20. No one will agree (I don't think), but I love The Great Indoors. It's hysterical. http://www.cbs.com/shows/the-great-indoors/video/

Well, it's no People of Earth! It's OK, IMO. Just seems like Joel McHale doesn't believe in the show -- like he's going through the motions. Good fit for CBS though.

  21. No one will believe me, but I Frankenstein was awesome in Imax 3d. Also Stuart Beattie is really cool to talk to.

I didn't watch it in IMAX as there is not cinema near me like that. I watched the regular 3D, and it was awful. One of the worst films I have seen in the last 12 months. Easy.

  22. No, the Henchmen mentioned in Sales is not mine. Yes, they're very different stories.

  23. Nolan's next film comes out November 2014. I think I can take an indie from concept to in the can before that movie comes out. That seems like a reasonable good goal!

  24. Not really a fantasy sports fan, but thanks for the offer!
