What are some good examples of a movie/screenplay where a character is an expert at something but had to give it up only to get dragged back to do it once again against his/her will?

Wish it was good screenwriting news to report, but it is still exciting. Got word from Temple that I will be fully funded in my doctorate program this fall! Now I'll have plenty of time to hack out queries to managers lol

Has anyone had any experience with applying to a Sundance lab? I'm getting Franklin Leonard's referral to apply to the first Sundance Episodic Content lab and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips?

The Brownie Wise story that just got optioned with Sandra Bullock in talks to start--I am so bummed. I had been in talks with the author to co-write the screenplay, even had a producer involved but they couldn't seal the deal, and now it's gone. ARRGHHH!!!

As great as so much television is these days, and as addictively as I tune in to some of it, I tend not to re-watch it. Yet I do re-watch movies. I'm curious if others have similar tendencies. And thoughts on why that is (or isn't). Assuming this is the case for others, is it something as simple as production value? Or does it go deeper? Does it have to do with the story mechanics?
