  1. Does anyone have any comedic mystery script recommendations with good twists and turns?

  2. A potential plot hole in INTERSTELLAR. Why do they need to get the space station off of Earth's surface? I understand that Earth is going to run out of food and oxygen, but space doesn't have food or oxygen either. Why couldn't they seal it and make it a surface space station?

Because that would be an even shittier movie.

I'm one of the lucky ones. Never had a virus and very rarely have had a problem with a Windows machine in all of my years using them. Any issue I've ever had I've been able to solve by googling the problem and running a fix. Windows is intuitive to me and I simply could not understand the Mac OS. Old dog, new tricks, I guess. I did like the form factor of the Macbook Pro, but it was pretty heavy. Lots of good lightweight Windows options out now and more on their way shortly.

MacBook Pro, that is. Windows 8.1 is no treat either, though, so I'm really looking forward to Windows 10.

I bought a top of the line MacBook and sold it three weeks later. I know I'm in the tiny minority, but I just couldn't stand that OS. To each his own!

I'm with you, Jiblings. Felt gratuitously hyper violent and pointless. The first season can be summed up very easily (SPOILER ALERT):

  10. Does Safety Not Guaranteed receive the same level of interest if it wasn't loosely inspired by a real classified ad? Just curious...

I don't think it gets made without the ad. Loved the script, but the movie fell a bit flat for me.

  11. Next question for writers: have you ever received payment for net points on the back end of a deal? I'd be stunned if anyone has, but asking anyway.

      StringerBell

Yes, I've had box office bonuses, which are usually tied to reported BO figures. But I've never even heard of a writer getting anything from net points.

  13. Question for the writers on TB: have you ever had an optional writing step exercised? (I haven't and am curious.)

      StringerBell

I'm asking if a buyer has ever agreed to pay you for an optional writing step.

Packaging is the thing all the big agencies tell you they'll do for you until you sign with them. ;)

  15. Anyone else mildly annoyed by the spec "racing into territories" hype? Producers bring specs into territories. That's just the way it works. A spec going into territories is not particularly newsworthy.

Exactly, Scott. And when there's a sale, I'm all for celebrating that.

I understand the value in tracking which producers are bringing material to buyers. I'm talking about making that basic step out to be something more than it is. To read the headlines, one would think a bidding war is imminent on every project. But it could just be me...

Soooo good in Secretary. What a great, underappreciated movie.

Of course it's relative, but it's on course to make A LOT of money. It doesn't have to match or beat Ride Along to be very successful and keep Hart at the top of studio comedy lists for a while.

Are you guys serious? A bomb? it's tracking for $30mm. Not helping Hart's stock because of poor reviews? Do you really believe studios care about reviews of a movie that makes a pile of money?!

Jeremy is a really good guy. I'm very happy for him. I hope his movie kicks ass at the B.O.

  21. Unbroken. So bloody disappointing. To me what's most compelling about Zamperini's story is his act of forgiveness. You pack that into an endnote? That should've been the story, IMO, with his POW experience in flashback or something. Feel like this movie missed the point entirely. So disappointed. And a little angry.

  24. Stupid question here: I'm working in MMS, how do I format it to get rid of the extra space between lines of dialogue. I see this all the time now and I can't believe I still don't know how to do it. Help, please!

    1. StringerBell

      StringerBell

Very simple, but it's got some depth if you dig into the preferences. You can also rearrange the interface somewhat (I put the editing stuff on the left and rearrange the placement a bit). It also makes clean PDFs. IMO, MMS is lousy, expensive software and FD is absolutely draconian.
