  1. Was never a huge Planet of the Apes fan, but I'm really digging where they're taking the franchise.

Saw the trailer this morning and loved it.

      thanks. dug this.

  2. Citizenfour is incredible and should be seen by everyone

    1. Coz

      Coz

Amazing. A fictional version would be awful.

I feel the same way about the Man On Wire Zemeckis adaptation.

    3. Elliott79

      Elliott79

The Snowden Files book was far more informative, in my opinion. Citizenfour was just an extended, not entirely coherent, interview.

  3. Anybody have the SPECTRE script?

      Foz90

Always the damned third act. I wonder what the internal World War Z emails at Paramount would have looked like.

  4. Leftovers was alright but Justin Theroux was great. Why is this guy not working more?

She looks pretty good in the Horrible Bosses 2 trailer!

    3. sankofa

      sankofa

justin theroux is brilliant and he, Liv Tyler, Amy Brennaman (sp), etc. along with the rest of the cast is what's keeping me watching the show...

It truly sucks. I think Wright makes massively entertaining films - I don't know why they wouldn't trust his vision. Marvel has lost the plot...probably literally. Now that it's 'dead' can we get our hands on Wright's draft?

    2. dsjones

      dsjones

I find it incredibly hard to believe that Marvel would take a script from two proven writers with produced credits and hand it off to two no names. That said, Whedon and Simon Pegg's tweets suggest that 1.) Wright walked away 2.) Marvel was pushy on something and being difficult. So it's not outside the realm of possibility.

And now Drew Goddard has left Daredevil. Wow. What is going on over there?

  5. Man, Monuments Men got critically hammered. Is it is bad as the reviews say?

    1. benskelly2

      benskelly2

Have you read it? I found it just as dull and uninvolving on the page as the critics seem to find it on the screen. I'm actually relieved to know I'm not alone. I like that Clooney takes chances and is willing to make mistakes and have failures, I'm just not excited by about 99% of his output as a filmmaker.

    2. Pompalompa

      Pompalompa

I couldn't even get past the first thirty pages of the script.

    3. Corsairs

      Corsairs

I'm with the critics on this one. Found it lacking in drama, unfocused, emotionally leading. It's not horrific, but it's a terrible disappointment given the talent involved.

  6. Someone on reddit got their hands on the screenplay for the final episode of Breaking Bad, he took a snapshot of the last page: http://i.imgur.com/ZkiNrv2.jpg

Cool. Be nice to read the whole episode. Hope it shows up here after a while.

The Writer's Guild held an exhibit at the Austin Film Fest and Vince presented the script for the season finale. It was on display for all to see.

F that's gorgeous. That End of Series is quite nice too.

  7. Go see Gravity, in 3D, on the largest screen possible.

  8. Check out Badger's Star Trek story from Breaking Bad animated: http://www.vulture.com/2013/08/breaking-bad-badger-star-trek-story-animated.html

Excellent. Badger "Ever tell you about my Star Trek script....gotta write it down is all!"

      axalon

The writers of Breaking Bad really know how to write stoner dialogue.

      Pete's reactions were perfect too

    3. Pompalompa

      Pompalompa

hahaha. what a great twist. and yes the stoner dialogue is quite great

  9. Despite a few minor bumps, Stargate has one of the best first acts in sci-fi.

    1. Pompalompa

      Pompalompa

haven't watched it in a while but i remember it being a little slow. also i hear the remake wheel is coming around and stargate may get its turn

    2. axalon

      axalon

I watched it last night for the first time in years. And while the dialogue can be cheesy and some scenes are very heavy handed, the progression of the story is terrific.

Can't believe the movie is almost 20 years old.

    3. Pompalompa

      Pompalompa

      o shit. it's on netflix

  10. Up until about 90 minutes in, The Lone Ranger really isn't that terrible of a movie...and then it keeps going...and going...and going...

    1. nazardo

      nazardo

Needed a big cut and the parts to remove were pretty obvious. A decent movie is hidden in there.

    2. specwriter

      specwriter

Typical Rossio and Elliott? The first Pirates movie puts me to sleep. SO bloated.

    3. axalon

      axalon

Outside of the photography, it's not a good movie by any stretch.

But I feel like putting out a 90ish minute version of this movie would have saved Disney a lot of headaches, not to mention money.

  11. Venom and Sinister Six spinoffs? I think I'm finally starting to feel superhero fatigue...

    1. Pompalompa

      Pompalompa

And Alex Krutzman is directing the venom spinoff... yay

    2. dsjones

      dsjones

Great. I'm over the Bad Robot crew.

  12. Thank you Guillermo for showing us what giant robot fights look like without hyperactive editing and unnecessary close-ups

The "surrogate" was great too. Actually loved Drake's episode last week. Funny start to the new year.

  14. Wow, have you seen the extended cut of 'That Thing You Do!'? The editor made Hanks look brilliant with that theatrical cut. The extended cut feels almost like a completely different movie. The pace is way off and it's no where near as fun.

    1. atom-heart-mother

      atom-heart-mother

I can't believe someone besides myself has seen that cut (That Thing You Do is one of my favorite 90s movies). And I completely agree with you. Very unnecessary additions.

    2. aphid47

      aphid47

I love that movie, but have not seen the extended cut.

  15. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul reading the through the finale (Felina) of Breaking Bad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXfUv2svQVU

I accidentally just watched this with my brother next to me who hasn't finished the last half of the season...

  16. Is the new Jack Ryan movie not tracking well? I feel like Paramount is really going all out with their marketing for it.

    1. bladebeam1

      bladebeam1

Don't know about tracking, but it got pushed from a prime spot of late December to MLK weekend. That to me is not a great sign.

  17. Really enjoyed Rush, it's worth checking out. Hemsworth and Brühl are great against each other.

    1. ddollar

      ddollar

i'm going today or tomorrow. looks great.

  18. Would it be possible to create a spoiler friendly sub-forum to chat about movies after their release?

    1. ThaVillain

      ThaVillain

I'd second this. Shows too. Been more than a couple spoilers on the updates feed.

I suppose we could do it in The Biz forum? But really, no one hardly posts there lol.

  19. It's interesting thinking how a movie like 'Tootsie' would roll out in 2013. Most likely having to make its way through the festival circuit before being accessible to the masses many months later in a limited release. As opposed to 1982 where it was released to everyone at the same time.

    1. specwriter

      specwriter

I was just thinking about that, in terms of how so many of the hits of the 80s would not even get greenlit now. So many of the pop culture "tentpoles" of the 80s were not designed as franchises, even if they did spawn sequels.

  20. Is there an early draft of A.I. by Stanley Kubrick floating around anywhere? I'd ask in ISO but Kubrick isn't even listed as a writer for it on IMDb.

  21. Steven Soderbergh gave a speech last year about the state of cinema. Found it really insightful. https://vimeo.com/65060864

  22. Trailer for Frank Darabont's 'Mob City'
