After hearing a large chunk of the message board rave, I just go the first season of Breaking Bad. Here we go!

After reading several scripts from the black list, two things have become clear: It's breathe, not breath and use your damn spell check. Unreal.

Maybe it's just the profession I wandered into when I took a turn down the wrong road, but in my world you re-read everything you write again and again and again and again... nothing to do with ego or or how much I like what wrote - you do it so you don't look like a slob. I don't think a person is stupid when I see typos and obvious mistakes but I do think, like CB said, that they just don't care enough about what they wrote to make sure it looked good. And if they don'...

Scott, you make an interesting point about whether a person would want to re-read their work. Although I understand that a person may not want to re-read it for fun, why would a person not want to re-read it to improve it? If they don't like re-reading it to that end, then it probably needs to be re-written anyway. I don't see it being much different than playing a song - a great musician practices a piece again and again until it sounds right. Playing it once and then saying, I...

After reading This is Gonna Suck, I think I might hate Kurdt Cobain. 1/5. Not a good script, not a good story.

After several recommendations to watch A Simple Plan, I got a group together and watched it. 4 of the 5 people HATED it. Said they don't like movies that make you think. This is your audience talking. I liked it though...

Also congrats to MOVIEGUY!!!

Always bothers me when I see an AMAZING Indie film, then find out the budget was five million dollars. Yeah. Indie. I'm looking at you Taking Shelter.

Indie means your financing doesn't come from any of the studios/media conglomerates. That's it. It has nothing to do with budget. Indie used to be a low-budget designation because filmmakers were lucky to raise a million in financing but with billionaires looking to buy an Oscar, foreign money and investment groups it's no longer true.

Amazing pilots to study. GO

Another day, another dandol--dollar. Just finished a new script and am sending it out for notes! WOOP!

Any good comic book scripts? By that I mean what the artist takes from the writer and interprets into the panels/pages? I'm surprised there are no books of side to side comparisons...

Thanks a lot, Charlie!
Full disclosure, I wrote a steampunk/gearpunk pilot with two other friends that has been very favorably received and we're looking to potentially turn it into a graphic novel or a comic book series as the budget would be high and no one would take a risk on it.
We were planning 13 episode seasons and about 5 or 6 seasons worth of story. Advice from friends in the business suggest going the comic route so we're exploring it currently and are just in...

Any interest on me reading the 230 page Cloud Atlas in the FE and doing a review?

Any screenwriters interested in doing a group NaNoWriMo except for screenplays? I would propse an Outline October and then we go full scale attack in November. I gotta a feature that's itchin to get written...

Any suggestions on how to find out if a movie is being shot in your area?
-
Start at the state level. Usually your state posts (in their film department website if they have one) upcoming movies or shows. Then if that doens't work, start at the major city level... I know NYC, Chicago, Vegas, Detroit, NoLa, etc does that ... call your state or local film department if there is one.

Anyone have a mailing/email address for the Duplass brothers? Nothing crazy, just sending a thank you card.
-
Anyone have any lookbooks or scripts with them inside? I know Can A Song Save Your Life kind of has one in the first three pages....
-
Anyone in LA want two tickets to see Ready Player One at the LA Film School on Tuesday night?
-
Anyone interested in starting a script reading club? Trying to read more this coming year.

Anyone know anyone who works for Starz?

i was born in colorado, but moved when i was one so i can’t say much about it except you drive in that third gear thing on automatic cars when you're in the mountains. i've been waiting my whole life to go back there one day, especially with recent additions to freedom lol. alas! hope you find what you want with your stearch.

Anyone working on Looking for Alaska? Just applied to work crew on it since it's filming in Michigan.
-
How did you go about applying to work on the crew? House of Cards shoots where I live and they mostly post something in the paper for extras, then you show up dressed all fancy for an audition among thousands of hopefuls. It'd be nice to explore moving around cords on set or do whatever crew does, but I'm curious if there's a more secretive way to become more involved in that kind of process.

Anytime I see a headline of an "older" script finally getting actors attached and heading into production, it always make me feel good. Persistence and patience is the key people.
-
Apollo 13 is on tv and I'm so close to tears. I fu**ing love that movie.
-
Apparently foreign distributors are really interested in the horror thriller spec I've been working on this summer and want the script ASAP. Has anyone else had to rush write a script before?

As I get ready for my LA move, someone suggested signing up for Extras Management or Central Casting to make money while I look for a job and network. Is this a good idea? Experiences?

Register with Central right away when you get to LA. You need to make an appointment, and check their website to make sure you bring the proper paperwork to your appointment. Then, be vigilant about calling the line several times a day to find out what's shooting for your demographic. You might also consider a calling service, but be careful; there are a lot of scams. It's not a great way to make a living, but it's money, and it's a great way to get on set and see how various...

As I prep for a move to LA, I'm looking for living suggestions. Thoughts? On a budget (i'm quitting my job to move), but I want to be close to the "action" and hopefully get an internship or a PA job right away. Thanks in advance!

Certain parts of North Hollywood, near Studio City, are very nice, and not too expensive. Burbank, Studio City, Sherman Oaks are all good places, though a bit on the expensive side.
I completely disagree about the "don't live in the valley" comment; it's not an ideal place if you go out a lot and want to party and all that, but, depending on what part of the valley you ultimately decide to call home, getting around really isn't that much trouble. And it's c...
