  1. Just read an INCREDIBLY depressing article by Jon Jost on filmmakermagzine.com. Buzzkill..http://www.filmmakermagazine.com/news/2011/02/the-microbudget-conversation-what-are-festivals-good-for/#

Everybody loves to project their bullshit on people when it comes to making micro, indie, medium budget, big budget stuff. Too much hate on why making films/new media/tv/shorts sucks in this day an age of mass digital consumption, consumer ADD, etc etc etc .... don't buy into it.... everything is a thing and nothing is in your control... or is it?

    2. Nic.Lishko

Interesting. I've just been getting more into the indie scene (saw Quiet City, Eagle Vs. Shark and Nice Guy Johnny all in the same day) and since I don't live in LA I figured it might be worth a shot. Just don't wanna do mumblecore :D

    3. Nic.Lishko

      Nic.Lishko

And while I'm on THAT note, yes people do project their bs on others. Taking into account the Consumer ADD, I think the market is mashed down with too much nonsensical (Fred, youtubepoop or whatever) and not enough sensical. My only issue with the "current" state of indie is no one cares about the stories or like Quiet City are just so boring you do want to gouge the eyes out. A delicate balance, but there's my ADD posting for ya. Duplass brothers do it and Cyrus was pretty awesome!

  2. Just read Snow White and the Huntsman (draft that sold). Mucho interesante. Didn't look too familiar in the trailer. How much was changed?

Agreed. Despite some problems with the version I read the rewrite/what got produced was not what I would consider much of an improvement. The film was way too boring at times.

    3. Cyber Hater

      Cyber Hater

Movie fucking sucked donkey dick. Not nearly as good as the draft that attracted all the attention.

Thanks for letting me know peeps!

  3. Just read The Field. Very interesting horror/thriller spec. It's worth checking out, but it starts rough.

Nice! Always love hearing the recommendations - trims my read pile, and adds some quality to the top. Thanks!

Happy to oblige! I've on to MailMen, should have that done soon...

    3. Nic.Lishko

      Nic.Lishko

Which I just finished. It had great dialogue and clever situations, but mostly felt like a first draft with lots that could be cut so it's a pass.

  4. Just reviewed The Epiphany on the member reviews. If you love Se7en, this is 100% for you.

If you liked this the BBC miniseries Messiah (2001) might be of interest.

Always enjoy a good BBC series. Will definitely check it out :D

  5. Just saw a trailer Abraham Lincoln Vs. Zombies. Question, is there a market in hollywood that CHASES the market/movies that will be huge? I feel like this isn't the first time I've seen this...

LOL. So this company exists to more like CONFUSE consumers, so when they start watching the movie they just go, "AW DANG!"? Crazy. It must work :D

I've been to several mockbuster parties/screenings. One of them was held by the director whose film was ripped off.

      Nic.Lishko

LOL. Details? If not, cool story bro.

  6. Just saw the trailer for The Sitter. I think I'm fighting a losing battle writing family and teen comedies.

The test for the right genre should be your own personal taste. If you can objectively say that you'd go see your movie opening weekend if it wasn't yours, then you're doing the right thing, irregardless of what the spec market is or isn't. Do good work and the offers will follow...

    2. Nic.Lishko

      Nic.Lishko

Danke dude. Good to hear that kind of stuff.

    3. Nic.Lishko

      Nic.Lishko

LOL. Thanks geek :D I remember it being a huge spec sale.

  7. Just wrapped Taking Back Sunday/Thursday concert. I was in high school again for like 3 hours today.

How about giving each character their own unique way of speaking. I wish I was better at it and the vast majority of amateur scripts have the characters all speaking the same way.

  9. Kindle should be here Tuesday. Let's see if this cuts down on the script reading/reviewing eye strain :D

Yes, I need one as well. Or one of those tablets/ipad. Would make it much easier to read scripts.

I started a discussion on this under "Chit Chat" some time ago. If all you're reading on it is screenplays, I've actually installed a different OS on the Kindle, something called Duokan.

Sweetness, I'll have to check that out. Thanks Ted, I'll do that. Nightcrawler (best xmen by the way), I just don't want the headache from those bright screens!

  10. Learning how to do coverage from a doc someone posted from WME's How To. Just wanted to say that I love this site and I hate the things I've heard lately. I appreciate all the people who have posted scripts/treatments/samples/whatever on here. You've really given this outsider a lot to learn so THANK YOU.

Absolutely - it reinforces a lot. However there is a danger that you end up thinking too technical.

Charlie, was that posted on TB? Or did you get it elsewhere?

Mysterian, it seems like Scriptshadow was first, and Tracking Board may be next in the crosshairs. Here's hoping it isn't...

ideafeast -- I think the idea is that Hollywood isn't producing nearly as many new stars as it used to.

Chris Pratt and Benedict Cumberbatch are anomalies.

  19. Love the homepage taglines you guys come up with. "Anne Hathaway has 'Low Self-Esteem' " I could've told you that.
