  1. I don't think a episode of television has ever made me feel this emotionally numb.

I read a few recaps after - quite a few people misinterpreted the phone conversation. How worrisome.

  2. While I understand the frustration that must come with getting constantly criticized by such an established fanbase, Orci saying "As I love to say, there is a reason why I get to write the movies, and you don’t." comes off a bit douchey doesn't it? http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Star-Trek-Darkness-Writer-Bob-Orci-Kindly-Tells-Fans-F-k-Off-39385.html

And how does a tie in game even remotely affect a movie? The logic there is bizarre. But at least now I know why the movie's logic was so off base.

They're acutely aware of the criticism - if they didn't think it was true they wouldn't be responding as they are.

  4. James Cameron isn't lying when he says that Gravity is the best space film ever made. Simple plot, lean and effective - nice use of theme, music's intense and it's a nail biter. But the visuals, my god. Several members of the audience who partook of herb were freaking out. I can't imagine what they saw but what I saw was beautiful.

If it's a 2 story IMAX screen? Yes, see it in IMAX. I saw it in regular but have seen enough films in regular and IMAX (you're welcome WB) to compare: the film's amazing in regular but the sheer addition of scale will make it a more immersive experience. You will feel engulfed by space. My vote: IMAX 3D. (oh and snag me a poster or three if you do the midnight showing.)

Can't talk about it without spoiling it - but it'll be obvious when you see it.

"if there are writers who could have written a better Into Darkness?"

If? I could name ten right now who'd have done better. You don't get such a strong reaction with a quality product. And STID was NOT something to brag about.

Could someone do better? Yes. If people are pointing out flaws in your work, be self-aware enough to say "yes, these were issues - we'll do better next time."

      Except wait, YOU CURED DEATH.

Two ways to handle criticism - rudely and with arrogance like Orci did, or like Shane Black did (graciously listening to complaints and explaining the need for changes). Instead of acknowledging problems with the story (of which there were lots), all he did was claim that he did better than anyone else could have. Incidentally, having read that post - he shouldn't kid himself, he's never done anything even close to Lucas/Spielberg/Kasdan's Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I mean, let's be real: Mad Men has nothing on Breaking Bad. It's overhyped. Writing's decent, but I don't find Don a persuasive character - hell, he bored me until the season 6 finale. That speech in the boardroom was when he finally clicked for me. With BB and MM ending, AMC's only really got Walking Dead and Hell on Wheels...and Walking Dead really needs to atone for the horror that was the Season 3 finale.

this season has been so painful...god, just the worst - and I'm saying that with season 3/5/6 as perspective. They had good ideas but shoddy, shoddy execution.

A wife who spends months watching her husband heal, emotionally and physically, will bear resentment to the cause of those injuries. Discovering your sister in law knew who was ultimately responsible and provided you with the money for PT out of guilt instead of pure charity? Anything less than a "take 'em down" attitude would not suffice. If you really believe what you're saying and aren't simply taking up a contrarian opinion, I'm horrified.

And yet, opinions can definitely be wrong - and in this case, I believe you are. My point is this, a detective who devotes a year of his life to hunting a meth manufacturer and almost winds up paralyzed was never going to be satisfied with just IDing the guy. That was never, ever going to be an option because it goes against the very nature of police work: you make arrests to bring bad guys down.

Additionally, if Hank had turned the case over and revealed what he knew, he (as he mentioned) would be stripped of his position and probably indicted on charges. Simple logic here man, these reactions are on the money. There's a reason people buy into the show and it's because they absolutely nail it.

This is the worst argument I've ever heard. Almost getting paralyzed for doing your job is a reason to react strongly, especially since Walt was leading him on the whole time - using him to get a step ahead. Marie disowning Skylar for her complicity? Hank simply asking to be reassigned despite knowing Walt's his guy? Do you know nothing of betrayal and obsession to question how organic that is? That's as far from mechanical/perfunctory as you can get.

There was anger and confusion. There are 8 episodes left, there's no internal struggle - there's the realization Walt's a douche meth dealer and then bringing him down because of all the crimes he's committed.

Ben, you hit it on the head. While I agree that Jesse doesn't have the complementary ascending arc to walt's descent, the Hank/Marie comment is baffling. Their conflict is absolutely justified considering how much blowback they've had from Walt's actions.

How? The conflict right now is exactly what it should be. Paranoia's pitch perfect, family's coming apart and the battle of wits is exactly what it should be. Aside from Jesse's character, I've been impressed/believed everything thus far. Your claim's a little off the mark when you look at the series overall - this has been the most grounded and organic season. Also, fuck Todd.

...Did you just say that the show feels less organic and realistic now than it did when a season ended with two planes colliding thanks to Walt's actions?

  22. Thought "The World's End" was great. "Hot Fuzz" though still remains my favourite of the trilogy.

  23. Jonathan Nolan/JJ Abrams team up for an HBO television remake of "Westworld". If you haven't seen Person of Interest, check it out - good news on all fronts as Jonathan Nolan is also directing the pilot.

  24. Can anyone tell me what Ray Donovan is about? Nine episodes in and I still have no idea what the story is.
