  1. What do you think about an inciting incident on pg 16? Is it too late?

There are no rules of course, I would say though that if the 16 pages is pushing it and you're having to cram stuff in to get there in the first 15 (something I've tried to do before) - then you should probably think about whether simplifying your story in some capacity might help, or just push that catalyst to the First Act break and give it room to breathe and set up your characters and stuff.

  2. "LOVE" - short I wrote - just won Best Film at Southampton Film Week. Not the Oscars - but still nice cool that the film's out there making its way in the world.

  3. hey guys, OT but is anyone looking for a new place in LA? i know of a couple spots in a writer's apt. in santa monica that are opening up Dec. 1

  4. Clocking in at 89 pages, the fastest first draft I've ever done for my first Horror/Thriller. It's not great by any means, but hoorah, it's done. FOR NOW.

  6. I think I'm using the term PRELAP wrong? I'm using it for a VO that starts before that scene begins. Is that correct?

do you mean VO as in a narrator? or actual dialogue from the upcoming scene. the latter is okay, though you don't see it often nowadays.

  7. for dialogue-- I'm trying to think of a situation where the training is worse/more grueling than the actual thing that's being trained for. Any ideas?

I always thought sword fighters were so effortless in their fighting (i.e. Zorro), but I'm sure the training itself is very strenuous. Same thing with some of the more graceful martial arts.

  9. Absolutely loved the "X-Men: Days of Future Past" trailer. Character focused and emotional.

looks like too much stuff is going on in the story. too many characters. hopefully it won't be a big mess.

i've only read one of cormac's novels and it was great, but i just don't think he knows how to write a movie based on what i read of the counselor.

it does not bode well... but i don't know if i would be that shocked either, given the script.

  12. Getting ready to go to Austin (as a finalist.) Pretty nervous. Anyone else going?

  13. TBers who use tablets to read scripts on (iPad, Kindle Fire, Galaxy Tab) How has your experience been with it? Does it hurt your eyes to read off something like that for extended periods of time?

kindle is great, ipad is just like a computer screen so your eyes will hurt after time.

  14. I enjoyed Captain Phillip even though I knew the ending already.

  15. Go see Gravity, in 3D, on the largest screen possible.

  16. As someone who regularly questions his sanity and abilities in this uncertain and often agonizing endeavor, I'd like to extend a big, blanket loving thanks to all you TBers who have shared your work here. With so many stories around us, just sheer numbers, it's easy to forget that every screenplay is in some ways evidence of a battle. Proof its author tangled with the abyss, and emerged to write another day. Presenting it to the world then takes a whole other kind of courage.

  17. Just posted my 2013 Nicholl Semi-Finalist script. Big thanks to TB Coverage. Your notes proved most helpful!

  18. Great ending. Much better than "cut to black..."

finished it. great finale. the outro song/dying scene was a return to the dark black humor the earlier seasons had. thought it was weird and fun.
