The homoeroticism makes it uncomfortable for some.

I think it's a timing thing. As Red said, there are times where I see 10+ people in there but usually there's already a conversation in full swing which makes it difficult to participate. It's great when you're in the conversation though.

LOL, Eliott. Just don't tell everyone you're naked.

  2. How many specs sold in 2014? I'm guessing 74.

Please god don't trust Go into the story for spec sale counts. Haha! Seriously though... they were off by almost 100 last year, and like 75 the year before. Please don't use that as a reference point. Wait for the TB guys to get a final tally, and then for everyone else to steal their stats like last year!

  3. I received some interest in turning my feature into a series, so I rewrote it as a pilot. Looking for some feedback, anyone willing to read it, pls PM me. Thx

  4. I vote for a set chat time on Friday's. Suggestions welcomed.

Don't get me wrong, I don't necessarily disagree with Amanda. She is right: screenwriting is an incredibly difficult, almost impossible career to achieve any kind of success in. I just think that taking career advice from someone with no actual professional screenwriting experience might not be the best way to proceed if you're serious about it. Don't let someone who doesn't really know bring you down.

    3. StringerBell

Funforall, I don't think it's the industry intentionally trying to mislead aspiring writers, but rather the media's desire for a STORY. What would you rather read? "Overnight success breaks in with million dollar script sale" or "part-time screenwriter of twelve years with nineteen scripts under his belt finally scores a $10k option"? And as one poster above noted, the agents and writer want the heat associated with those big headlines, whether or not they...

  11. Taking a poll here: What's your preference for a character who is not visible, but heard - speaking on the phone (via speakerphone for ex.): (V.O.) (O.S.) or (O.C.)?

Depending on the context, you could just put INTERCUT - PHONE CONVERSATION and write the conversation without VO or OS. I tend to prefer this.

      I like that Shadow.

I'm with you Bobby - VO just doesn't feel right. Ultimately, I think you go with whatever works best for you and adjust later if you get comments about the story being interrupted because of how you portray the phone calls . . . good luck!

I've used varying styles. Mostly, however, I utilize (ON PHONE) as an extension or (filtered, phone) as a parenthetical. It's all a style choice. Whatever works best in the scene and fits with the overall tone.

  12. TB: Love how you're now adding reported sale prices to spec sales on the main site. Maybe next you can distinguish between Options vs. Sales? Thnx

Agreed. Regardless of what he said he should have at the VERY least given credit to Ligotti. It's embarrassing that he doesn't even mention him.
