  1. #LPFC Get on Twitter and get to know the hashtag now, as next week we're bringing interviews w/ writers, agents, managers, and exclusive Launch Pad Promos as we announce all of the 2014 Launch Pad judging panel & spotlight 25 writers, reps & execs for a Twitter-based Q&A session for our community!

  2. Hi everyone - I'm playing footsie with one of the Gotham Group managers and am wondering if anyone here has any experience with them or with this kind of a setup of a management/production company. I'm currently with a London-based agent who I feel isn't pulling their weight as much as they could, so I'm tempted to move. Would I still need an agent in parallel to this? What are some of the things I ought to look out for? Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Who the hell was clamoring for a sequel to a HOCUS POCUS??

  4. Anyone have a prediction for Age of Extinction's weekend gross?

  6. So The Rover's budget was ~$12 million and it made $69K opening weekend. Probably won't make more than $100K in its total theatrical run. Is there any hope for it to recover its budget? How much money can this movie potentially make on VOD/rental? Could it ever make up for its budget or is it just a dud for the studio?

  8. Listed on front page as a sale...Centers on a group of celebrated NASCAR drivers who use their unique expertise to aid a Nazi resistance team. Only problem is, NASCAR didn't exist until 1948. Unless this is another time loop concept.

  9. Can the $25 off coupon not be used on an early bird entry? Mine didn't work.

  10. The number of writers getting signed up with reps off the back of the TB pilot contest is truly amazing

Haha. I actually came on here to delta my rant, but since you've already commented. Yeah I agree. More than anything it just bothers me when people will do so very little for something they supposedly love. And yep, props to Margie (if she's here too - thanks for chiming in). Thanks for listening to Red's Rant!

...success stories? How are you not seeing them? Are you intentionally avoiding them, so as not to see them? Show me any other competition out there that is doing what the TB guys are doing. Show me any other one out there that is even close! Seriously. I just... ugh.

Sorry for the rant, it just boggles my mind sometimes. Also, makes me feel like I need to go get an account over there.

also, should note, to not cause a stir - this is my two cents, not the site, or a...

What blows my mind is when I see something like this (http://bit.ly/1ncj21W) and think to myself - holy shit! It's happening, shits getting real - people are actually kicking ass and taking names!!! Careers are starting! For real!

Then I stumble upon something like this (http://bit.ly/RjJjyQ) and I just cringe. Can't figure out the competition page, complaining that there is an entrance fee (which goes to the readers btw, not to TB), not seeing any s...

  17. If you are an aspiring screenwriter who wants desperately to tell the stories that pop in your head at all hours of the day, the FUCKING IGNORE all this nonsense, about what is a sale and what isn't. Jesus. The people talking about this the most, won't be around in two years. Get a bottle. Stand in a lightning storm and pray you capture it. Or just write great stuff. You do the math.

hink people are saying, woah, woah, woah, pump your brakes guys, don't drink the koolaid here. Too many people tend to already blindly follow the herd in this digital age. Lets be smart enough to make our own decisions. Should people research and know their industry - absolutely. Will an option being reported as a sale, or a sale reported as an option, or any combination effect another writers ability to succeed. Absolutely not.

And Stringer, I don't think that's what people are saying here. I think they're simply saying if the only reason anyone writes is to get rich, this industry is better off without them. Having someone claim that their is a "hope machine" harming this industry is, as I said above, ridiculous. If it was just an aspiring guy sounding off in frustration it'd be fine, but instead it's a bitter aspiring guy pointing fingers at others for his failures. That's where I t...

I agree with what you guys are saying as well. It's just a matter of understanding, and doing so of your own accord, not doing so because some angst guy tells you that you should be. Everyone should study and understand the industries they want to work in. But the idea of a "hope machine" being a substantial problem in this industry is just ridiculous.

If you're only reason for writing (or doing anything) is because you want to get rich quick, it's not going to work out for you.

k in the pursuit of money ever make it. EVER. Think of it like a professional athlete. In the beginning, you love the game, and the fun, but once you begin to look at it as a potential career, you need to start looking at the highs and lows of this career choice, as well as the sacrifices, perseverance, willpower, and belief in yourself it will take to even get to the point that this could become a career. I feel like this conversation is so below anyone serious about this career choice!...

Amen! The people worrying about this at the onset of actually writing are the people this industry is better off without. (this of course being my opinion, bot necessarily that of TB). But come on guys, those who still hark back to "Shane Black sold this for this much in the 80s" are not yet serious about this path. Doesn't mean they never will be, just means at the moment money, no passion, is driving them. And very few people who set out to tackle an incredibly difficult tas...

but thats the same report they'd send to news outlets for a 6-figure sale, as they would a free option.
