  1. Seven Psychopaths listed under sales today? PLEASE BE REAL! In Bruges is sooo damn good.

If I'd grown up on a farm and was retarded, Bruges might impress me, but I didn't, so it doesn't.

  2. Sherlock Holmes 2: One of the best movies I've seen all year. Only one that has beaten it was Midnight in Paris.

  3. Shooting for 15 pages a day. Should be a workable first draft in 7 days. Here goes!

  5. Should we do a new topic for each script in the chit chat? Or should we post them in Member Reviews? I added all the people who've messaged me into the list on chit chat. Want to start next week?

Sounds good. Whatever you decide. Is it a rotating thing where each member gets a chance to choose a script or by votes, what?

  12. So...Chat on Friday? What time you ask? I dunno. Daylight savings has once again saved us nothing, so I leave it to those of you who work full time to suggest a time.

  14. Sorry for the delay, my review of They Repair Us by S. Craig Zahler is up in the Member Review section!

  15. Sorting RT by Comedy, 80% or higher and made in 2000s. Movies to see: Sidekick, Kenny and Millions (boyle). All have super high scores, never heard of any!

    1. kate

      kate

Kenny is a great Aussie film - pretty much all about the guy that cleans those toilets you see at festivals. V. Australian humour though - not sure it did too well overseas.

  16. Starfox 64 - FALCO: Is that the best you can do?!

  17. Started a chit chat about Indie films. Would love to hear some input!

  18. Started reading Cowboy Bebop. Gave up. I don't think the guy read the manga or saw the series. Felt so disconnected...Couldn't finsh it.

  19. Stop what you're doing and read From NY to Florida. It was amazing. 5/5.

Instead of paying for coverage have you thought of joining a writing group? I'd love to start one in LA with members of the board if anyone's interested.

      jessefoxchaney

writer's groups are tricky. i've been in a few, and the experience can be extremely helpful, but can also quickly devolve into "too many cooks in the kitchen."

I don't actually live in LA ClapYourKnees (yet), but based off of your recommendation, I'll see if there's any local ones in my area!

  22. Super behind on TV pilots, but I've read a few and what the hell people? 69 pages for a network pilot with VERY TIGHT as your spacing settings? Who are you kidding?

    1. zacksmith8

      zacksmith8

Presumably they intend to cut after the initial draft the network reads, as an excuse to include ideas they could repurpose for later episodes, or to test out characters/plotlines that might be iffy. A TV writer friend told me a good length for a spec pilot is 65 pages. I've seen shooting scripts for recent hour-long dramas (regular episodes, not pilots) that are as short as 42.

  23. Sweet! A short I wrote, directed, wrote the music for and did the camerawork for is top 20 in the Almost Famous 48 hour Film Fest! It'll be shown on the big screen Thursday!!

  24. Testing out the black list. Anyone have a really good experience with the site?

If you looking for a place to get quality coverage on your script - the BL is not your huckleberry. Franklin himself has said that the BL's purpose is not to provide coverage. It can get eyes on your script - but even then, with great scores, there's no guaranty anyone's going to care.

      lauriestark

I know someone who got her first job as a staff writer after a successful script posting on that site. In addition to being a talented writer, her script was about something unusual which I think made it easy to talk about and helped brand her and leverage her success. The show she got staffed on was a natural fit with the subject of her screenplay.

An 8, two 7's and a 6. Final thought? Consistency confusion. The 8 versus the 6 was as if the 6 read the praises of the 8 and decided those were the worst parts.
