  1. The lack/snub? of names and films this year is mindnumbingly confusing. I mean, The Book Thief gets one nom, original score (John Williams)? Michael B. Jordan gets nada? I guess this IS the most subjective industry.

And I haven't seen Nebraska, so I can't comment on Bruce Dern's performance, but I've heard some terrible things about that movie. The noms kinda shocked me.

I'd have easily put Jordan in Chiwetel Ejiofor's spot. Loved 12 Years, but he almost felt like a supporting character to me at times.

  3. Was never a huge Planet of the Apes fan, but I'm really digging where they're taking the franchise.

  4. Follow Up Slugline Question: What do you think the difference is between (OC) and (OS)?

    1. ThaVillain

      ThaVillain

I always took it to mean OC was for someone in the room but not visible (off camera), and OS was for someone in another room (off scene).

Wait, The Hit List came out today too?

      Merry Listmas everyone!

  6. Holy crap they gutted it like a fish. http://collider.com/edge-of-tomorrow-trailer/

Read and loved the script. They've definitely changed some things. I'm hoping it's for the better. Guess I'll have to wait and see the movie.

I agree with the comments saying it should have been a kid though. Most of the soldiers were young in the script if I remember correctly.

  7. Good Lord, the season finale of Sons of Anarchy was brutal.

  8. "Seventh Son" looks like it cost $250 million based on the trailer, but it's opening in early January? Is WB dumping it because it's Legendary or is it just a turkey?

    1. ThaVillain

      ThaVillain

It probably has something to do with the recent glut of failed YA novel adaptations like Beautiful Creatures and The Mortal Instruments. But that's just a guess.

I've always wondered this. Thanks for asking Charlie, and thanks for answering Red!

Guess I've got another month to revise/polish!

  11. Watching a show about mental health issues and emotional disorders is interesting and all but I'll admit I do miss the days when Homeland was about the CIA and espionage.

    1. ThaVillain

      ThaVillain

Wow, I was about to start watching Homeland On Demand and get caught up, but I guess it isn't worth it. Thanks for saving me the time!

Skimmed the overlong interview since I'm at work, but those Comments had me in stitches!

  14. "LOVE" - short I wrote - just won Best Film at Southampton Film Week. Not the Oscars - but still nice cool that the film's out there making its way in the world.

  15. I'm sure everyone's seen it by now, but um, did you see this judging panel - http://bit.ly/1bXNvcp

Gotta admit, I was a bit skeptical of the Launch Pad competition (as I am with most comps), but the results speak for themselves. This contest is FOR REAL. I guess my bro and I will be submitting the comedy pilot we've been working on!

  16. My latest draft of Cipher Crash is up for this week's ametuer submission on scriptshadow. So please vote for it if you don't mind.

  17. Clocking in at 89 pages, the fastest first draft I've ever done for my first Horror/Thriller. It's not great by any means, but hoorah, it's done. FOR NOW.

  18. Wow, anyone else find "Now You See Me" more improbable than not? Disappointing.

NYSM was OK to me. Wouldn't call it horrible. Yeah, there's some major suspension of disbelief. But everyone in my theater seemed to be enjoying it so I went along for the ride.

  19. I think I'm using the term PRELAP wrong? I'm using it for a VO that starts before that scene begins. Is that correct?

    1. ThaVillain

      ThaVillain

I liked PRELAP when I first saw it and started using it myself. It makes the read more cinematic IMO. Then I heard some readers don't like it cause they feel a PRELAP should be done in the editing room by the director, so I stopped using it. Yeah, I'm a chicken lol.

  20. The review embargo on The Counselor is starting to worry me...

    1. ThaVillain

      ThaVillain

I read the "script" when it first was posted and have mixed feelings about it. The cast, crew, and trailer got me excited. But I dunno. The finished product could go either way. I'm hoping it's awesome, but the review "embargo" as Axalon put it has me worried. This is the type of stuff we see with those terrible Adam Sandler comedies, not for movies like this.

  21. The Wolverine has one of the best post-credits scenes in recent memory

    1. ThaVillain

      ThaVillain

Really enjoyed Wolverine. The Bullet Train sequence is one of my favorite action set pieces of the summer so far. The final act definitely lost me though. It just seemed completely different tonally.

  22. Pacific Rim was one of the worst movies I've ever seen and I'm glad it's over.

    1. ThaVillain

      ThaVillain

If Pacific Rim is really the worst movie you've ever seen, you need to watch more movies...

  23. They renamed 'All You Need is Kill' to "Edge of Tomorrow'? Why??

    1. ThaVillain

      ThaVillain

No doubt they changed it to be more PC. With things like the Boston Bombings and the Newton and Aurora shootings, they don't want to send the message that "All you need is to kill people" I suppose...

  24. Working on a script during your day job is still TECHNICALLY being paid to write, right? =)

Wish I could put FD on my work comp. Mostly I do outlines, notes, etc. in Word. Or just read scripts during downtime.
