  1. Anyone read anything funny lately?

  2. For the sake of discussion, how would you even protect yourself against something like this? http://www.thewrap.com/elysium-director-neill-blomkamp-sony-producers-sued-copyright-infringement/

Kinda highlights why it is important to have a lawyer look over any sales/option agreement with a studio/prodco - they can put provisions in the sales docs that are unnecessarily overreaching.

Copyrighting your work is a pain in the ass for studios? Where are those screenwriters from? I'd love to hear the reason why they think this.

  4. Starting the fourth draft. Here we go!

  5. As someone who regularly questions his sanity and abilities in this uncertain and often agonizing endeavor, I'd like to extend a big, blanket loving thanks to all you TBers who have shared your work here. With so many stories around us, just sheer numbers, it's easy to forget that every screenplay is in some ways evidence of a battle. Proof its author tangled with the abyss, and emerged to write another day. Presenting it to the world then takes a whole other kind of courage.

  11. While I understand the frustration that must come with getting constantly criticized by such an established fanbase, Orci saying "As I love to say, there is a reason why I get to write the movies, and you don’t." comes off a bit douchey doesn't it? http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Star-Trek-Darkness-Writer-Bob-Orci-Kindly-Tells-Fans-F-k-Off-39385.html

Isn't it a fringe element that's making most of the noise though? Last I checked on Rotten Tomatoes - not the end all be all primary citation, I know - STID was rated pretty high.

Frobisher, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you.

I think that the largest barrier, by far, facing amateur writers is themselves.

That said - may we all be in Orci's position one day of having to defend a script that's taken in almost 1/2 a BILLION worldwide.

      Yes, rude.

But, so what. He's an a-hole. But, you know what else, he's right, isn't he?

Someone out there think they can do better? THEN GET TO IT.

      I'm trying every day.
