  1. What do you think the budgetary cut off is for producing a script with unknown/relatively unknown actors? For instance 'Chronicle' was made for $12 million but didn't have any big names attached. At what point would most studios go "okay, we need an A-lister"?

      Wow, I feel like I know nothing on how films get financing. Could you elaborate some more or is there anything I can read to enlighten me on this?

      The casting was great and I'm always interested in seeing new faces on screen.

       

      Chronicle was just the first thing I thought of but it seems like they do this with almost every horror movie too. I'm assuming it's because horror movies cost way less than sci-fi.

      studios essentially mitigate their financial risk as much as possible, so the best way to do that is to add "elements" that are known to make money. foreign and domestic. the names who mean something foreign still but nothing domestic is shocking.

      Genre movies travel, meaning they sell rather easily and for significant money in foreign territories without names.
