Scorsese needs a new editor he trusts. WOLF OF WALL STREET suffers from its length and just about every scene runs too long, sapping the film (and audience) of its energy.
I think Hugo was the tipping point into senility for Scorsese. Haven't seen Wolf, hope I love it, but there is something to be said for filmmakers retiring like every other occupation.
Spec, if I were pursuing a doctorate in film studies I would write my thesis around that topic. Something really fascinating to me about filmmakers reaching their peak then continuing to work after it.
Dan, I agree with a lot of what you said. Jonah Hill is awesome. He and McConaughey were the highlights and you're right about Margot Robbie - wow! I enjoyed the lemmon sequence, too, but it would have been a LOT better had it been cut back, particularly at the country club stairs.
