    Question about revenge movies: is there a "moral code" of sorts in these kinds of movies?

      Make the punishment fit the crime. The worse the inciting incident is, the more your character can get away with as they get revenge.

       

      And who says kids are off limits? One of the best revenge films of all time, Last House on the Left, has teen girls as the victims. And Ransom was a kid being kidnapped.

      I think they meant your hero can't shoot someone's kid just to get revenge.
