  1. What are some good examples of movies/screenplays with two or three separate storylines that don't necessarily intersect?

      Short Cuts(?), Guillermo Arriaga stories perhaps...

      Arriaga is one of my favourite writers, depends how you define 'intersect' really. Amores Perros' second storyline zones off into its own territory, but arguably, it's started at the incident. While in Babel, it takes us a while to see how the threads are connected, but Babel's the closest you might get with Arriaga, although I haven't seen his films past 2006.

      The fancy pants film critic word for this type of multilinear narrative is "hyperlink cinema." Wikipedia has a pretty decent list. Though in most cases, whether it be Snatch, Magnolia, or the afore-mentioned Babel, the story lines eventually connect.
