      Second part - if you write something brilliant and someone steals what you wrote (the expression of an idea), then you sue them for copyright infringement. If you have a "brilliant" idea (dime a dozen) and someone steals it, you're SOL. And let's face it, if all you have is brilliant ideas that you can't execute then that pretty much puts you in the category of general population. An idea is only worth how it's expressed.

      @ ... who are those guys? I don't know anything about Simon Beaufoy's lawsuit but a person can be sued for all sorts of things over a screenplay/movie that have nothing to do with copyright infringement (breach of contract comes immediately to mind). But more to the point a person can be a named party in a suit but still be indemnified by another entity. His name is on the lawsuit but if he were indemnified by a studio then the studio would hire the attorneys, pay those costs and if...

      the studio lost the case, the studio would be responsible for the judgment.
