  1. What are some good examples of movies/screenplays with two or three separate storylines that don't necessarily intersect?

  2. Can someone recommend something laugh-out-loud funny for me to read?

I find it hard to believe a writer who makes $400k+ a week whenever he damn well pleases just walks away from his dream project to make money.

  3. The review embargo on The Counselor is starting to worry me...

Regarding quality and out of fairness, lets not forget that production had to shut down due to Tony Scott's death, with Ridley having to return about a week later to finish the movie. I can't imagine that was easy for anyone.

  4. Say what you will about Damon Lindelof, I think he makes some good points in this: http://www.vulture.com/2013/08/script-doctor-damon-lindelof-on-blockbuster-screenwriting.html

Haters should read his LEFTOVERS pilot. It's fantastic.

Yeah I'm not sure who the fuck is qualified to rewrite Cormac McCarthy. I would not be shocked if it was 100% faithful.

  6. If you haven't read "Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" yet, do yourself a favor and read it. It's a winner. My favorite by far out of both the Black and Hit lists. So there's that. :)

  7. Time for the BlackList game. Guess what the top 3 will be. I'll start...1. Story of Your Life 2. Somacell 3. White House Down

It's really a double edged sword. If it places really high or at all, he'll get a lot of "this guy paid/was an intern". People will doubt the honesty of the list (both Black and Hit anytime someone who paid anything shows up. At the same time, both need to prove they have a monetary value and scripts they push/discover showing up on their industry wide lists is a great marketing tool.

Looks like DEVILS AT PLAY, DRAFT DAY and scripts about SEUSS and Hilary Clinton are making the list. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324024004578173742359909344.html

I'm curious to see, on both Black and Hit Lists, the success of scripts that were paid to be reviewed and covered. I feel like a high placing for MCCARTHY would be a PR nightmare for Franklin.

  10. Anyone know about the untitled action comedy pitch by Scott Rosenberg that just sold to Disney? Seven figures deal.

  11. Suggested scripts to read or movies to watch with “Strong female leads”?

  12. Just added "White House Down" spec that sold for $3 million today.

You'd think the millions he gets for Spider-Man would be thanks enough.

  13. So, Cormac McCarthy just sold a spec script.

  14. Just finished "When the Street Lights Go On." It's beautifully written and a hell of a page turner, but there's a certain thinness to the story. Reminds me of "The Virgin Suicides" in that way (and obviously in other ways too). Still, I'd pay to see it, I think.

VIRGIN SUICIDES definitely takes away from the script a bit, but it's a remarkable read for a script that has an uninvolved/unimportant protagonist and no plot.

  15. Anyone else feel THE DARKEST HOUR looks terrible? The aliens look like some bad CGI you'd do in Adobe After Effects..

  16. finally read "One Shot". Good script. Enjoyed the journey and protagonist...

Cruise is perfect for the script, I thought.

  18. Just heard Ben Ripley (Source Code) has been hired to pen the FLATLINERS remake. Should be interesting.

It's a sad state of the industry that a guy who wrote as creative and buzzed about script for SC can only land a remake of a crappy nineties movie.
