Thinking of getting a MFA in screenwriting... thoughts?
-
Stay, stay away from any of the "low-residency" MFA programs out there, many that advertised heavily in the few Screenwriting magazines before they went under. Absolutely worthless in comparison to what you can learn on your own without spending $7.000 a semester. I could tell ya horror stories of how poorly these places are run, yet break their arms patting themselves on the back.

Oh, my, The Heat was horrid. Horrid, horrid putrid.

Does any one have any "scripts" of videogames? I guess it's in some sort of form of "rights and lefts", as in the choices a player makes along the way? My son is interested in media arts / game development and I'm trying to turn him on to the STORY side of the "art form." (cough cough...)

Any recommendations for a terrific read from the latest batch posted in the File Exchange? I'm itchin' for a good read.

Good Lord, Fast & Furious 6 was simply wretched. Every line was a full-on groaner. I pity the morons that laughed along, above the howls the the damned infant on some idiot's lap. I was dying inside at the slow mental pitches to the lowest common denominators that pepper this increasingly jamoke planet. Twarn't much better when I snuck over and wasted two hours of my life in the excruciating wonderment that is Hangover III.

It was a long struggle. Literally finished at the last minute. Submitted my Writer's Store entry. It was unpolished, raw and frankly not very good. I will take it as a 50 dollar lesson, harden my resolve and start deadline work early. I start my walking dead spec tomorrow.

Just read Tracy Letts' AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY and John Logan's RED - both Tony-winning plays and absolutely exhilarating lessons in how to craft great naturalistic-but-clever dialogue. Maybe, once in a while, we need to read quality plays to remind ourselves just how good dramatic writing can and should be.

Since no one seems to be able to last in the chat, what does everyone think of "Fury"?

Did anyone watch the Walking Dead finale? What a mess...While there was one major scene that I loved (think you might be able to guess which - it was the big one) the idea of "resolution" in the manner presented? Horrible. Just...horrible.

hmm, I don't know what to read next... any suggestions?

Geesh... I'm sorry, but The Green Inferno has me "green infuriated," 'cause dude, you CAN'T dissolve reefer in Amazon rain water - THC is only released by OIL extraction - NOT water! And so, okay, you slip the killer weed into the cannibal's food, oh no, I see it coming - yup, it gives them the MUCHIES - for YOU! Oh no, oh no, oh no...

I would like to recall the time I just spent watching the "Total Recall" remake.

If you haven't read "Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" yet, do yourself a favor and read it. It's a winner. My favorite by far out of both the Black and Hit lists. So there's that.

Anybody know what big script Carson Reeves is giving out for book reviews?

from the email: "So I've decided to provide a little incentive. I have two top secret scripts. One of them is a big movie coming out this summer that everyone's anticipating. It's not a franchise film and the script has been out there some, so there's a chance some of you will have it, but everyone seems to love it. The other one? This one I know you don't have. Cause it's top secret. It's huge. It's based on a franchise. It's from 2007. That's all...
