As I get ready for my LA move, someone suggested signing up for Extras Management or Central Casting to make money while I look for a job and network. Is this a good idea? Experiences?
People always suggest that to the jobless but I've never known it to really pay. Even extra-ing is competitive in Hollywood and for a lot of people it's a career. But sign up. It can't hurt.
I work with Central sometimes. It's tough to make it a day job unless you get cast as a regular extra on a series (such as a Nerd Herder in Chuck), but it's a good way to get on set and make a little extra money.
If you can qualify as "18 to look younger" or certain other in-demand types, it can be regular work. If you're "just sorta average dude" , it's more difficult.
