There is one some of the members here kicked off earlier this year, but in early 2014 we will be launching an official one alongside the stages of new site releases.

    3. Nic8767

      Count me in.

    4. laurenstotts

Red - that sounds great. Looking forward to it.

  3. Anyone willing to post their pilots that placed in the LaunchPad? Would love to take a look.

    1. admin

I think the TB guys requested they do not sure pilots at this time - while they work to get them out there selectively to the judges, etc.

  4. Can anyone grab Bitter Script Reader's script? Love to see it.

Thanks, Rob. I wasn't sure how it worked. But seriously, would a true industry pro take the time to read and rate a script, not any of the pros I know. We barely find the time to get together for our weekend flag football games anymore.

    3. Jaco

No problem. Interesting question. Because of the anonymity of the Pros on the BL site, there's no way to "weigh" the score given. Meaning - score could have been given by a writer who's been given access to the BL site, could be an intern who has her boss's ID and password to the site, or could be a heavy weight agent/manager/producer.

    4. CliveBarks

Thanks, Rob. That provides a better understanding.

  5. Colin is an awesome choice! Hearing someone pretty awesome for female lead too.

    1. axalon

      Who for the female?

  6. Does anyone have scripts from the Blue List?

    1. benskelly2

      What is the Blue List?

    2. Coz

      Columbia's best student scripts.

    3. benskelly2

Thanks. There's, uhm, a lot of lists now.

  7. Does anyone know how to change the apostrophe style in FD? I hate that it's slanted. So ugly, man.

And on a related note there's the awesome Courier Prime font: http://www.quoteunquoteapps.com/courierprime/

    4. rywold

I love this font, but on my windows machine it adds length to the script.

  8. Does anyone read screenplays on a six-inch Kindle? Trying to help my eyes with the reduced light. How is it? Worth the money?

    2. joe_gillis

Yes, I use Briss to crop and then turn it sideways to read. I wouldn't buy a regular kindle to read script, though. I mainly use it for books.

    3. Coz

Interesting. Do you see the full page on the six-inch?

    4. joe_gillis

No, nowhere near a full page but it's surprisingly not much of a problem. I was thinking about buying a tablet to read scripts before trying with the Kindle and although not as good it meets my needs.

  9. Fact: if film schools had acting classes for aspiring directors and writers, their films would be much better. Fact.

Improv is a writers greatest tool. Well, that and inate talent. :)

It was mandatory at mine for both writers and directors

      ... who are those guys?

It was mandatory at mine too

  10. Get ready for Tyrant. Good, bad, indifferent... just get ready for it.

  11. I am almost positive that Copland is, like, almost a brillant revelatory film with great characters. And then, somehow, it isn't. Thoughts?

  12. I know Johnny Manziel fell, ABC ruined another pilot season, and my pilot was passed on. Sigh.

Hey, BREAKING BAD was a pass, too, along with many other eventual successes.

    3. PJMAC

      Sorry. :(

    4. Frobisher

Hollywood picks far more failures than they do successes.

  13. I love Redymayne, but I wiuld have voted for Cooper. Good show overall.

    1. adlocke

      missed it. whoops!

  14. I'm not always the biggest Bradley Cooper fan, but he was terrific in American Sniper.

The trailers make it look excellent, why is it so bad? I'm a Leftie, but I have to say the reactions to this movie seem to be very politically motivated. Can't watch anything on a military subject without that polarization now.

Re: Sienna Miller, also Foxcatcher. So underutilized.

    4. mnml

Agreed. He was fantastic. Aside from one's stance on the war in general, the film was devoid of any political narrative. Thought the missions/action felt a bit too much like a video game, but all-in-all I thought it was well done.

  15. I'm starting to accept we'll never find the Captain Phillips screenplay. Sigh.

  16. Is there a list out there for companies that have story analysts?

  17. Just saw the best pilot I have ever seen. Wow. Wow. Lifetime achievement type work. Shame it'll never air. Amazing.

      Solid pilot for sure.

    3. benskelly2

They should broadcast it as a one-off anyway. In memory of.. Hate to think that work is wasted.

    4. twofingeredtypist

Hopefully it will leak like other pilots in the past.

  18. Kristen -- we need SPECS! :( I miss the updates.

  19. Moonfall! Stat. Everyone: let's get this one.

      A true comedic great.

    4. benskelly2

Groundhog Day is a classic. He knocked it out of the park with that one.

  21. Reading Shadow Run is like reading someone who is about to have a very good next few years. Clear, concise, interesting.

    1. Pompalompa

I like his overuse of the word "Detonate" but as far the story goes... meh. Do CIA agents only date nurses?

  22. That's how you end a series, Serial. Drop the mic.

    1. StringerBell

I enjoyed the series, but I definitely did not think the final episode was drop the mic worthy.

  23. The next great TV show everyone will be talking about: HBO's CRIME. You didn't hear it from me. :)

      its called crime now

    3. naugehyde

ah. just read the pilot. intrigued to see where it goes.

    4. benskelly2

Doesn't surprise me. Richard Price is a brilliant writer.

  24. True Detective just makes everything else on television pale in comparison. Really.

Didn't Scriptshadow pan the pilot. Did he get it wrong?

    3. nazardo

I couldn't make it through the 1st episode, though I recognize the quality of acting & direction. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood to watch 8 hours of something so dark.

    4. DonKasparoza

I was bugged out at the end of the other episode when the guy comes out in a gas mask with a machete. Not the kind of guy you want to run into in a back alley lol. Great show.

  25. Very few films truly have impact. American Sniper is having a frickin' IMPACT. Crazy. Rightly or wrongly.

Seeing it tonight because that's what a friend wants to see. I hope to judge it as just a movie, not a political Rorshach test.

    3. Scott Crawford

      Scott Crawford

The success of American Sniper will make it easier for everyone to sell more serious fare. And not just AS - Fury, Unbroken, The Imitation Game... there's an appetite out there for stories about heroes, all sorts of heroes, who don't necessarily have superpowers.

    4. benskelly2

Hope that's true, Scott. Certainly seems to be a trend of old-style "adult" films now that gives me hope. As for AS, it's not perfect, not even a great film, but it's pretty well made (fake baby aside). The combat scenes are very effective and Cooper & Miller do excellent work. And if I have mixed feelings...well, films SHOULD start arguments and debates.
