  3. I need a logline critique - A man confronts mistakes of his past when his son goes missiong 3 hours before a nuclear bomb drops on his city... Does it make you curious?

Yeah, time = ticking clock. Antagonist needs to be personified so audience can relate. You know, DIE HARD, McLean was running out of time but still antagonist was key to what made that film great. So your story is revenge, good stuff. Actually DIE HARD 2 was revenge on McLean for killing Hans, but also heist film. Maybe revisit that one.

Almost there but who's the antagonist? He can be racing against the clock but it's only interesting if he's challenged by [insert antagonist].

  5. Developing a 5- to 6-minute short that I'll be filming in early June -- something I plan to enter into Sundance and others -- so I'm aiming for high production quality of course. But what are the expectations these days for shorts that get accepted into top festivals?

  6. My family-friendly screenplay The Offended Ancestor placed in the Zoetrope semifinals.

  7. Finally made it into the WGA and looking for any advice or suggestions from other members...any words of wisdom to pass on? What events should I go to?! What do you wish you had known about when you got in? Thank you!

  8. On phone with producer regarding comedy series. He wants us to cut down on the drama, but wants "drama like stakes" in the pilot. #WTF

And the next one up the chain will want alien zombies. Good luck!

  9. Informal Script Format Poll: Bold scene headings or not bold scene headings?

No pref. In a pilot spec I actually bolded the char intros and thought that would be an interesting trend.

  10. I don’t normally toot my own horn, but... my western script “DEATH OF A LEGEND” is the Grand Prize Winner in the StoryPros Screenwriting Competition, beating out almost 1,000 other screenplays. Tracking Board coverage from DB and JT helped me improve the script, so a very big thanks to them. I’m hoping the win will help me in my quest to find a manager.

  16. How do you guys feel about getting (film) coverage? For or against it?

Also, if you're able to get it into a prodco, it'll be judged against whatever else is circulating within that genre, so that's another reason for at some point to get professional perspective, whether friends in the biz or if you have to pay for it.

Admittedly biased but I'm for it. :-) Seriously, professional perspective is important because for producers whether or not to invest in a script is a biz decision.

Or perhaps it's time for Emily Blunt as Bond. She'd kick ass.

  19. So I ended up winning best comedy feature at Austin. I'm still trying to process the whole experience, but I can't say enough good things about the festival!

Agreed,Manny. Certainly each new Bond brings something new. I'd like to see Tom Hiddleston bring some new flavor though another go with Craig would be fine by me.

  22. Thanks to netflix, I just watched Rambo for the first time. Pretty fun film, can't believe I've never seen it.

  23. So what exactly was satisfying about the Mr. Robot finale?? The whole staff needs to watch The West Wing or Good Wife or Dexter to understand what makes for a compelling cliffhanger. Sorry, the promise of the pilot wholly unfulfilled. Thoughts?

    1. Reader George

      Reader George

adlocke, that was true for most eps, especially early, but season finale a dud in that regard.
