    Really not sure how to feel about American Hustle. On one hand, I admire the theme of the story and the ambition of the storytelling; on the other hand, it feels like a hot mess and is just not as satisfying as it should be.

      sbbn is right about the "band wagon" effect. I'd take it a step further and say that social media has made the band wagon more like Noah's Arc. No one LOVING the movie has actually said what they loved, aside from "great acting, etc." Just curious.

      Here are a couple of my So Fucking Whats…Christian Bale was bald and fat. Bradley permed his hair. Amy just wanted to be loved for real. JLaw was so NOT Katniss Everdeen and Renner's Goombah Liberace was hard to watch.

      I'm often disappointed by movies that fetishize the "look" and "feel" of the '70's without capturing any of the raw, renegade, originality of '70's cinema. Not drinking the Kool Aid on this one either.

      The inciting incident usually comes "shortly" before the end of the first act. If you put it on page 15, that will make for a very short first act, or a tedious second half of your fist act. Mine always land around page 20 and I've seldom if ever been told that's too late. Scripts that have "early" inciting incidents usually have characters that leave me wanting, cos I simply don't know them well enough.

      Keep em short. Really short. By that I mean in terms of the time period for which they want the exclusivity to shop. But don't be afraid to insist that you won't sign any kind of attachment deal until they bring something tangible to the table. You can PM me. I'm happy to elaborate.

    Question: Do feature comedy specs sell anymore? I can't remember the last one that sold to a studio. Seems like everything is developed in-house or with attachments. Am I wrong?
