  1. Finally made it into the WGA and looking for any advice or suggestions from other members...any words of wisdom to pass on? What events should I go to?! What do you wish you had known about when you got in? Thank you!

Thank you guys so much! And Johnson...invaluable information! Re: jabbatron06, I sold my soul to Z Nation as a season of indentured servitude and did everything I could to make sure I was where I needed to be when I needed to be and never said no to anything. :)

  2. The difference between the sentences "I got staph" and "I got staffed" is just 4 letters and twenty awkward minutes of explaining the difference on the phone to my parents.

I really wish we had a "like" option for responses. Thank you andrewpwoodberry!

  3. Okay, I did it and I'm sorry... I should have known better. I should have used better judgement... But can I please have the hour back to my life for the time I spent reading the steaming pile of shite that is Bad Boys 3? Talk about "by the numbers"! It's like a word processor blended every dull, cliched cop-buddy script into a homogenized mush and then played Mad Libs, changing the villian's names to Albanian, etc, etc, etc... And to think Peter Craig & Davi...

Could be worse...you could have read the new Twilight book Stephanie Meyer "wrote."

  4. Got another question for my amazing TB friends. I have a screenplay that was produced just last year but still no agent or manager. I want to start sending out query letters and was wondering, do I have to use a new spec script or can I send out the script that was produced?

    1. 36monsters

      36monsters

Thank you guys! Yes, I have a pitch and a few spec scripts I can use...just trying to figure out the best possible way to do this.

  5. General question for the entire group...have a pilot script and a feature film I'm planning on starting and want to know which one you think would be the best one to start with? What works the best as far as querying agents, a feature or a pilot?

  6. Maybe I'm the only one, but my dad wanted to see Jurassic World, and holy shit what a horrible hodge lodge of cliche and stereotype. I guess story takes a far back seat to CGI. Even the comedic moments of levity fell flat. In short I thought it sucked big time, and I guess I just don't understand the appeal.

I'm with you. I grew up on the original and this one was just so...disjointed! There were literally 3 different stories going on at any one time and none of them really wrapped up well. And as for the "love story?" I felt Chris was more connected with his raptor "Blue " than the girl. Ugh.

  7. For the writers out there: How many words/pages per day do you try to write?

    1. 36monsters

      36monsters

It totally depends on my mood. Some days I'm lucky to get 5...other days it's more. I knocked out a 65 page script in 2 days last week after a total creative rush, but now I'm completely blasted and haven't written a page since. I should be back up and running by next week.

  8. Question: Anyone have a list of managers that are taking on new clients? Just wrapped up production on my first feature film and I'd love to have someone who can guide me on my next step.

Anything from the "Devil's Storybook." Brilliant short stories. Tried optioning multiple times but the author refuses to budge. Is it horrible to say I'm actually waiting for her to die so I can try again?

Zoned, thanks for the advice! I'll check those out. I'm thinking "The Cutting Edge" meets "Man from Snowy River."

McGeek, I wish... And yeah, I was worried the Rom Com was a tough sell...but figure it's worth a shot. I'll get it started and see what people think...

  19. Exciting news! Got a gig doing a rewrite for a film already in the pipeline that has some serious potential but they're asking if I have an agent...which I don't. Any suggestions from any of my already repped friends?

  20. Anyone attending Great American Pitch Fest? Anyone have any experiences with this one or Inktip?

They were asking about the agent because he wanted to put me in touch with some other people for work but they only take agent repped writers...so... But yes to the attorney! All over that as well!

  23. What are some good examples of a movie/screenplay where a character is an expert at something but had to give it up only to get dragged back to do it once again against his/her will?

  24. Okay guys, it's officially online! The short I co-wrote was just posted. Into Scifi?!? CHECK THIS OUT! http://indieflix.com/indie-films/icarus-down-37509/

It's a trailer for the short which is just 12 minutes long. It's all done, and running the festival circuit right now so the director is being really selective about releasing the whole cut.
