  1. Did anyone watch the Walking Dead finale? What a mess...While there was one major scene that I loved (think you might be able to guess which - it was the big one) the idea of "resolution" in the manner presented? Horrible. Just...horrible.

Wasn't even that. It was the violation of our cardinal sin: Give them a reason to tune in next season.

TWD: the season finale was a reset of sorts...but, eh...Even though Andrea is still alive in the comics and fighting alongside Rick *AND* one of the strongest female characters in the comic series (next to Michonne and others), her death wasn't surprising at all since the writers were clearly running out ideas on what to do with her. In a lot of respects, Andrea was a character that the writers didn't really know what to do with and just gave her stupid things to do, etc. Even the mom...

I had a hard time keeping interest in most of season 3. Jumped the shark.

  2. Since no one seems to be able to last in the chat, what does everyone think of "Fury"?

Well . . . didn't have no spanish in there initially. At least not until I got into my third bottle of tequila. Now there's a bad guy in the script who calls himself QUESO HOMBRE. He squirts out cheese from his ear holes to form little cheese ball gnomes who have a taste for the flesh.

    3. dsjones

      dsjones

Oh noooooo. The cheeese. I'm on page 46 of Fury. Pretty damn good.

It's pretty by the numbers, in Sgt Rock comic book beats, and I can see the crowd go wild for the new (and gettin' old fast) ultra-blood splatter effect that I felt started in the last Rambo and much overplayed in The Walking Dead. So many typos, I think perhaps they are there for a reason, to ferret out leakers with some typo-code??? But, I enjoyed it.

  3. Jonathan Nolan/JJ Abrams team up for an HBO television remake of "Westworld". If you haven't seen Person of Interest, check it out - good news on all fronts as Jonathan Nolan is also directing the pilot.

  5. Breaking Bad's final two episodes are 75 minutes each. So I'm betting 5 extra minutes of story, 10 extra minutes of commercials? Hope AMC's making a pretty penny off those ad sales.

Sorry, trying to be low-key about it. I'm sure BB will be worth all the commercials. The DVD sets are the way to watch this series anyway, as we all know.

What's your budget? I use 1970's Nikon lenses and found some great deals on eBay (for 24mm, 50mm, and 135mm).

    3. dsjones

      dsjones

Budget is around 800. I've got some wide angle, now I'm looking into telescopic/zoom lenses.

    4. jtthieme

      jtthieme

I would definitely check out ebay or keh.com. You should be able to get yourself an 85mm f/1.8 and a 135mm f/2 and still have a little left over.

  9. Just read a rumor that to compete with Marvel, WB is going end their DC comic films with cliffhangers. Why on earth would ANYONE think that's a smart idea?

Does anyone really read any mainstream comics these days? And I'm sorry, but the idea of reading "digital comics" online holds no desire from me... Only the Fantagraphics type stuff is interesting. Ahh, I remember when an afternoon of hustlin' deposit money on pop bottles with a buddy could yield an inch high stack of comic books and a few candy bars. A true cliffhanger? Psspt! More likely some stunt with a character's sexuality or whatever's the "new"...

Jaco, I heard it was going to be The Purge meets the Bourne series, with a twist of Die Hard. The producers said they need time to "flesh" it out.

  12. Chris Nolan offered the next Bond film? really?

He's a big fan and Inception's snowy assault was basically his OHMSS homage. Interested to see if there's substance to this...

    2. dsjones

      dsjones

I hope he jumps at the offer - It'll mean very little free time between Interstellar and Bond...Daniel Craig in a Chris Nolan Bond film...dear god.

    3. dsjones

      dsjones

I feel like if Nolan did sign on, he'd be given the time. His name ensures a certain degree of quality and they want their follow up to be a success. They saw how extra time helped skyfall, so rushing it doesn't make sense. Also, what's the word on this is it a two parter, or just tangential story threads that link them thematically?

  13. As I dig myself deeper and deeper into this 15 page hole, I prayed for inspiration and god delivered in the form of deadline and Soderbergh: http://www.deadline.com/2013/04/steven-soderbergh-state-of-cinema-address/

  14. Hannibal Season 2 might be the greatest piece of television I have ever seen. That finale, while slow at times, builds to the most emotionally devastating set piece to air on television.

it was great! And that post credits reveal...WTF?!?!?!?! Hannibal HAS to be the best show on broadcast tv and most definitely up there with the top cable shows on now.

  15. Pacific Rim: 7/10. Solid concept - humor was good, liked the casting - however: needed more battles set in the daylight and less at sea. Idris Elba ftw.

  17. AVClub: "Seen on a traditional movie screen, Gravity looks like a near triumph, compromised just slightly by the tidiness of its dramatic trajectory. Stretch the film across a bigger canvas, however, and those flaws become tiny specks, dwarfed by the enormity of Cuarón’s aesthetic achievement."

  23. Homeland: you are officially dead to me. I don't even care about knowing if I was right anymore, I'm not watching another season of this.

  24. Upstream Color...incredibly interesting. Not sure what the hell I just watched but it was captivating.
