I highly doubt Steven Spielberg would value the opinion of someone like Carson Reeves.

His review of Sniper cut to the heart of the script's problems. For better or worse SS reviews reach execs. Which is why August and co get so mad about them.

    4. Shining1

      Shining1

Agree, dsjones. SS's "prized material" always tanks at the b.o. -- i.e. EVERYTHING MUST GO, SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD, and there was another (or two) I'm forgetting. Let the execs ponder that.

  2. Broadchurch adaptation on Fox...seriously? Just air the original.

agreed. I just rolled my eyes. I need the broadcast networks to back off the remakes and come up with original material. There are some exceptions (John Glenn's adaption of the british mini IDENTITY is an extremely solid pilot, and a miniseries I think that COULD be easily adapted over here) but leave it alone. I'm expecting to hear CBS or ABC to remake THE FALL shortly. smh

      dsjones

Network doesn't do miniseries - that's the problem. They're adapting works that don't have longevity. How has no one sat at the table and gone "Hang on, wait a minute here - this can't be sustained because X, Y, and Z remakes tried it and all crashed and burned."

Jiblings - we literally discussed this as we left. Specific Rimjob was the best thing I've got.

Also, the flick was very enjoyable. Lots of eye candy.

  6. Pacific Rim: 7/10. Solid concept - humor was good, liked the casting - however: needed more battles set in the daylight and less at sea. Idris Elba ftw.

Watching was first exposure to the material - I have a copy on my tablet but I deliberately held off reading it.

  7. Taken 3: The plot line is under wraps but said to involve Taken meets Taken 2: except this time...the person he has to find and rescue...is himself.

From the lips that brought you Indy 4 and SW prequels so take with grain of rock salt. Outside massive inflation, $50 - $150 is ludicrous. Movies aren’t live entertainment. If they cost that much people won’t go & spend said $50-$150 on live entertainment. It’s supply & demand, like any other business. If demand falls, prices go down, not up.

It just sucks that innovation in this relatively new sub-genre is getting neutered by companies like Disney.

Tony Stark should have dealt with alcoholism in Iron Man 3 as it would have complimented his PTSD perfectly. But Disney, from what I heard, decided to forgo this route because it was too adult.

Well what the hell then? Why am I going to see these movies? There's only so much you can do with action scenes and frankly when it comes to that department there real...

    3. dsjones

      dsjones

Mike: I actually really enjoyed Thor. It was the only Marvel movie to really have character development (aside from Iron Man - which was to a smaller degree) where the character starts one way and learns humility - and where the villain actually has development of his own. None of the other Marvel films really had that. I just really enjoyed that aspect and the story, while not ground breaking, was entertaining. I just want to be entertained. Now, given the fact that Thor 2 is being directed...

Flawed garbage, like test screenings. Average moviegoer doesn’t analyze a film after they exit, especially if they enjoyed it. People have been searching for ways to beat the stock market for years. There’s no free lunch in that. Same deal with movies. Con men loveth a sucker.

There are people telling me daily that algorithms will one day rule our lives. I can tell you for certain that THOSE people have never been in LOVE. And if they have, it's merely an anomalous affection quotient attributable to the overindulgence in substances inducing outlying, abnormal, and uncorroberatable eroginea factors...No?

I hope he jumps at the offer - It'll mean very little free time between Interstellar and Bond...Daniel Craig in a Chris Nolan Bond film...dear god.

    3. dsjones

      dsjones

I feel like if Nolan did sign on, he'd be given the time. His name ensures a certain degree of quality and they want their follow up to be a success. They saw how extra time helped skyfall, so rushing it doesn't make sense. Also, what's the word on this is it a two parter, or just tangential story threads that link them thematically?

Well . . . didn't have no spanish in there initially. At least not until I got into my third bottle of tequila. Now there's a bad guy in the script who calls himself QUESO HOMBRE. He squirts out cheese from his ear holes to form little cheese ball gnomes who have a taste for the flesh.

Oh noooooo. The cheeese. I'm on page 46 of Fury. Pretty damn good.

    4. Mr Cakes

It's pretty by the numbers, in Sgt Rock comic book beats, and I can see the crowd go wild for the new (and gettin' old fast) ultra-blood splatter effect that I felt started in the last Rambo and much overplayed in The Walking Dead. So many typos, I think perhaps they are there for a reason, to ferret out leakers with some typo-code??? But, I enjoyed it.

  19. Did anyone watch the Walking Dead finale? What a mess...While there was one major scene that I loved (think you might be able to guess which - it was the big one) the idea of "resolution" in the manner presented? Horrible. Just...horrible.

      sankofa

TWD: the season finale was a reset of sorts...but, eh...Even though Andrea is still alive in the comics and fighting alongside Rick *AND* one of the strongest female characters in the comic series (next to Michonne and others), her death wasn't surprising at all since the writers were clearly running out ideas on what to do with her. In a lot of respects, Andrea was a character that the writers didn't really know what to do with and just gave her stupid things to do, etc. Even the mom...

I'm halfway in and enjoying it. Don't know about the fantasy stuff but I could see a bunch of actors having fun with these roles. With Jaws so often on the cable channels it'd be fun to have something like this for a double feature.
