You know those really dumb notes you hear about writers getting from producers/executives? They have to come from somewhere. And if it's worth $10,000 it must be good.

Sanguine, I think it's a fallacy to assume just because they can get away with charging 10-20K that their opinions are valid. Just reading the article, you can see that their methodology is flawed - assessing performance after the fact and assuming that it was because of certain components pre-viewing contained within the story that affected the BO. That's an inherently flawed system - the fact that someone is paying them is what is most troubling.

Does this mean that he would've advised Warners to pass on THE MATRIX since its concept was too similar to DARK CITY which didn't perform well? Or told Fox to pass on THE X-FILES b/c it was too similar to the unsuccessful NIGHT STALKER series?
