  1. I'm freaking out. I know this happens all the time, but I am about 1 or 2 months away from finishing a script that has the EXACT SAME CONCEPT as another project that was announced in the trades. I am very proud of this script and feel it is the best thing I have written. But I can already hear the rebuttals, and I don't want to waste my time working on something that seems to be dead out of the gate. What would you guys do?

This actually brings up an interesting topic that I always wondered about. There was like 14 competing projects that was similar to Liar Liar.... and a ton of projects that featured the famous female pirate... how similar does the project have to be? Lucy looked a lot like Limitless and both look a lot like this 1950s movie I saw about a guy who becomes a genius... while sharing a central concept, the execution of those scripts were quite different. Different characters, different choices...

@EricW that's fair but it wasn't about not caring, it was more about the demoralizing reaction about slaving at the keyboard to painstakingly develop a story that suddenly appeared to be a waste of effort. Regarding SWING VOTE, I was certain it was the right time for that story, and I was right, and had my script had been the one in circulation, Kevin Costner prob/maybe would've been calling me. It was quite devastating.
