To be fair, hollywood studios have become all about tentpole and comicbook films. Beasts of the Southern Wild was amazing, but I imagine the studios came to it after it was fully funded and made as a distribution arm. For my money, there is far more creativity and brilliant story crafting in television than you'll find in the local cinemaplex.

You're right CB- for every Breaking Bad there's a Burn Notice, Park666 and a dozen other dumb shows. But there are still diamonds in the rough.
