  1. gotta say, I'm excited for this tv show

Looks pretty amazing. Sort of a Southwest version of Zodiac.

    2. benskelly2

Oops. Make that Southern version, no West.

Read the script a while back, a refreshing non-linear structure but a little slow on the story. Deep characters with a lot to show as well as some really nicely crafted scenes.

  2. Anxious to read the "Person of Interest" Pilot. Just need to get my hands on it.

I want to do but I doubt I ever will. JJ watermarks his things like crazy and only paper copies are on un-copyable red paper.

  3. Any of the top 25 script shadow winners apart of this site?

Made it to the logline phase, but no further.

A $5,000 option is crap anyways. Seriously if it's a great script talk about being taken advantage of.

  4. Any recommendations on a books or website that helps with the modern day blueprint of screenplays. I used to write comedies, but have transitioned to TV Dramas. However I have a drama Idea for a feature and would like to get reacquainted with screenplay structure as it looks today.

In my little world, I tend to believe books about structure are great if you're writing a grad paper but not so great for anything else. Beginning, middle, end. Everything else is that slog of a journey you have to figure out yourself and the best light is finding what you enjoyed (movies/books) and then struggling to figure out what it was that worked so well for *you.* Of course, there is a million-dollar industry that disagrees with me so I'll leave it to the masses to tear my w...

      ords apart. Carry on.

"Dr. Format" regularly updates his Screenwriter's Bible. You could start there and deviate when applicable, a la Gilroy's brilliant NIGHTCRAWLER.

  5. anybody know anyone with some experrtise in law or judicial side of things? I'm trying to research more about judges and their duties, elections, etc.

ddollar. Jaco know alot about this too?

npquinn. I'm worried that spin off isnt even gonna compare to the original.

    3. ddollar

zack, jaco was a lawyer, i believe he still may be technically. he'll probably chime in at some point here.

    4. Jaco

      Yes, I am a lawyer.

Feel free to pm your question. Or, like the other lawyer said - start a thread in one of those thingies over on the left side of the screen.

  6. Anybody on here in thr armed services. Preferably in the army or marines. But could use some help either way.

    4. Ashish

There's also a user Christopher.m.slavin who introduced himself as an army vet a couple of months ago and might be able to help you.

  7. Anyone able to get their hands on "Son of a Bitch" yet? Her twitter has some great humor. Curious to see if it translates on to the screen.

    1. sbbn

+1 - love to see the screenplay.

  8. anyone else hearing about mickey fischer and his pilot. Trying to understand how he got it in front of someone. also want to read it.

thanks johnson. as usual they always leave things out such as trackingb contest. that was what i mean by getting it out there. Thanks.

    3. chandolaswinter

It's called EXTANT -sounds really good. About a sci fi family drama about a couple raising a child who is AI and she's pregnant with an alien baby. Would love t read :)

    4. typistolero

It's floating around. I'd expect it here soon.

  9. Anyone have recommendations on good action thrillers to read?

    1. NoahTG

MOTOR CITY by Chad St. John. Zero dialogue. Literally, zero dialogue.

  10. anyone recommend seeing the counselor?

      Michael L

I'd recommend. I liked. I'm still thinking about things a week later (in a good way). That said, I have some questions, and there were things I maybe wasn't loving, but not to the excoriating extent many in the press seem to have not been loving. Or the dude next to my table in the Thai restaurant. Who was not loving rather loudly.

    3. Corsairs

Let me add my recommendation. McCarthy breaks all the screenwriting rules, but he can get away with it because he's Cormac McCarthy. He makes big blocks of dialogue crackle with life, where other writers would bring the show to a grinding halt. You'll be so engrossed in the interesting characters that you won't notice that they aren't doing much.

    4. Zmanx

Yes. It is being crucified in the press but time will judge it much more graciously.

  11. Anyone using Final Draft 9?

FD is not getting much love. But JJ Abrams said you should buy it even if you don't own a computer!

I am. It's okay. I mean, it's not radically different.

  12. Anyway to read some of the top 10 scripts? Very curious to see how the stories played out and what the judges considered top 10.

    1. Mr. Marbles

      Mr. Marbles

Same here-- Maybe members who placed will post or direct message us if they don't mind sharing. I think the entire top ten gets a free year year to tracking board... So hopefully see even a few. Maybe someone else on here would know the answer better...

I'm pretty interested in The Mother,Number one fan, and Daybreaker scripts. If they show examples can someone send a link or post them?

Anything where you are around weird people and earn tips. Bartender, waiter, male escort ...

    4. dsjones

Government. Everyone's complacent so your work is rarely ever expected on time. And it's so easy that you can knock it out of the park in a few hours, casually have it trickle in during the rest of the day while spending most of your time writing/outlining. plus you can get a pension, which is cool.

  14. can tb recommends happen on story notes, or just the full coverage option?

  15. Can't wait for all these new pilots that have been bought to be uploaded. I'm anxious to read this years crop.

[FOX] “Atlantis” mystery drama revolving around two estranged brothers who embark on a mission to find lost city of Atlantis using state of the art vessel.

    3. zkendall

      to name a few... haha

    4. Pompalompa

And Jon Farveau is directing a fantasy epic for MTV... that should be interesting

  16. Dallas Buyers Club worth the price of admission??

    1. dsjones

It was a very well done film.

  17. Damn, one of my favorite guilty pleaures is in peril now. Fast and Furious looses one of the two people that actually matter to the franchise. R.I.P. Paul Walker.

  18. David Shore and Vince Gilligan collaboration? Yes please.

  19. Fault in our stars! Damn! Anything else as good as that that I should read???

    1. craktactor

Not AS good, but pretty damn good (and different genre) is GODLESS.

  20. Hey guys. Could use your help rewiring my thought process. I have always had this fear that if I don't watch alot of TV and Movies all the time, that I will get stale in writing. Yet when I get busy that means I have to allow for writing and watching. I think in these instances I should focus more on the writing, but then I fear my writing will suffer? Thoughts? Wisdom?

Also, stealing from novels is much easier and less noticeable. I am cannibalizing the fuck out of Raymond Chandler and I know that 90% of Hollywood won't notice. ;-)

    3. Penelope

Do whatever inspires you is what I say.

    4. aphid47

Read outside of your genre also. You'll be surprised by how it will spark your creativity.

  21. Hey guys. Im wondering what are some good new pilots to read. Read REM last year and loved it but have been reading features since. Any suggestions?

    1. storymaps99

Is L.A. Noire based on the video game?

    2. zkendall

      thanks McGeek

  22. hey roark. Thanks for the six feet under scripts. however you uploaded the sit down shut up pilot not the six feet under pilot.

  23. I can barley stomach giving broadcast TV a chance these days. 98 Percent of it is just ridiculous.

    1. Mr Cakes

      Mr Cakes

I agree. When the pilot scripts (non-cable) start popping up every year I just cringe.

    2. aphid47

Hannibal, only show on broadcast worth a shit.

    3. specwriter

I was talking about Gotham with a friend and lamenting how if it were done on HBO, FX or basically any non-broadcast network it would have been SO much better. Such a great concept, almost there, but...it's Fox. Frustrating.

  24. I did a rewrite for a script in Final Draft and my buddy doesn't have the program. Is there anything I can export it to so he can edit??

Fade In. Free download and you can use it without buying it, although there is a reminder that pops up periodically about buying it. Great program.

Quick note with Trelby, the margins are off and in need of a good tweak if you decide to go that route. You'll notice it once you import the file.

  25. I have a question for the moderators. But i guess it could go to anyone who knows. Is there a big difference between submitting to the launchpad pilots and submitting to the year round coverage that automatically gets you a chance at getting your script around town?

    1. admin

Hey Zack, while us mods over here have nothing to do with the competition, I asked the TB guys for some clarification. Essentially, the year round coverage is kind of like it's own contest, but is ultimately beholden to the 1-2 individual readers responses, whereas in the competition, every script is read a minimum of two times by readers before being turned around to the management team and judges who read the top picks (between 100-150) to get the number down to their ultimate winners....

    2. zkendall

      Thanks red. Just was curious.
