  1. Just a friendly reminder TO BACK ALL YOUR SHIT UP.

  2. App suggestions for screenwriting on iPad? Final Draft and Fade In have weird mobile versions. Looking for a desktop feel. Thx

Fade In is said to have a decent iOS version (https://www.fadeinpro.com/page.pl?content=comparison). I tend to use DramaQueen for actual screenwriting on my desktop/laptop, and I've recently discovered OneNote for outlining/free thinking.

  3. Can anyone recommend any good comedy pilots from the last few yrs that really pushed the envelope in interesting ways? Like if Charlie Kaufman wrote a TV pilot? Thx!

  4. Hey Hive Mind. I'm doing some research and I'm looking for your favorite movies where two or more lovable lugs go on the run from the mob, the government, other baddies after they either a) unknowingly fuck something up B) get embroiled in a plot unwittingly or c) steal from said bad guys or government... What are some of your favorite "on the run" movies? Thanks--MP

Big fan of Midnight Run myself, but I'm surprised that Some Like It Hot hasn't come up yet.

Chandra's kiss was surprising, but I think her character worked, overall, and she wasn't just a "young ambitious lawyer" stereotype. Her sexual confusion was also evident in the scene where she gets drunk with Stone.

... somewhat irritating on first viewing, but in that last episode I understood what they were going for, and when the eczema returns, you really do feel for him.

I think the foot issues were laying pipe to give Stone a real problem in the final half hour. We have him dealing with it for a long time, finally finding a cure in Chinatown (we're relieved for him), and then he gets the double whammy of having to do the closing argument AND the eczema returns, which is the worst possible situation for him.

So I think it worked on that level, but I did find the amount of screentime and attention devoted to it earlier on somewhat irritating on...

  11. Informal Script Format Poll: Bold scene headings or not bold scene headings?

    1. electroglodyte

      electroglodyte

Another vote for bold. Years ago I found it a handy way to reduce the page count by a page or two – by having a single blank line (instead of two) above the slugline, but making it bold to make the division stand out more.

Ah, I see what you did there. You're only counting Star Wars movies. Okay, I can't think of a JJ Star Wars film I've enjoyed either... YET.

But his ability to make even someone like me take an interest in the Star Trek franchise certainly bodes well.

Same for MI:3, IMO still the best in that franchise.

JJ has a knack for taking a franchise and reviving it - kinda the opposite of Mr. Lucas, so in that way it's a perfect match.

  14. Hi everyone - I'm playing footsie with one of the Gotham Group managers and am wondering if anyone here has any experience with them or with this kind of a setup of a management/production company. I'm currently with a London-based agent who I feel isn't pulling their weight as much as they could, so I'm tempted to move. Would I still need an agent in parallel to this? What are some of the things I ought to look out for? Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.

I thought the end of ep. 15 worked as an ending for the season. A bit like when Don Draper got married at the end of one season.

Not only are there probably two decent movies hidden in this makeshift trilogy, I'm looking forward to the inevitable cut someone's going to come up with that boils it down to one movie again, something that just more or less tells the story of the novel.

Dropbox is definitely a good option. I also use Carbonite, 40 bucks a year, and it uploads everything invisibily in the background. That's my last ditch defense against hard drive failures or loss of the computer.

  25. Come home from awesome trip with daughter over the weekend. Power up the laptop. Everything is great. Check a few things and leave the room for 20 minutes. Return to find: OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND. Urgh. Lost zero movie scripts as they are all on my I-Pad & In the CG Arc. All TV which I hadn't uploaded to either is gone. Every script I have been writing for the last year: Gone. 550 gigs of Comics: Gone. All lists more or less gone to current updates before 02/11. Fuck.

    1. electroglodyte

      electroglodyte

Man that sucks. Good luck with the recovery, you may yet be able to get stuff back. I had the same thing happen, and now I use Carbonite for online backup of files (about 45 bucks a year) and an external HD (about 100 bucks) that is a complete bootable clone of my internal HD.
