  1. A 1/3 of all US movie ticket buyers have dropped off the grid this weekend? Anyone here actually planning on seeing anything?

Jiblings - water cooler talk among the people who keep track of this kind of thing. I guess it has to do with pre-sales and tracking.

We are lucky that we bought a house on higher ground.

Something I'd advise people to always consider when house hunting... Acts of God.

      Or just buy an ark.

Wow...sad news. Not just for Nolan but all these people that lost their homes.

      Hope anybody affected is okay.

  3. A guy bumped my chair in a restaurant today and lifted my laptop case without me noticing. It ended up in lost and found when all he found were scripts inside.

Said to be in the vein of "American History X" meets "The Son of Rambow" - a powerful tale of religious zealotry through the eyes of children.

YUP! Sunnydale truly did suck ...didn't it?

  6. Amazon Studios - where scripts go to die but are resurrected as Kindle graphic novels. Amazon Storyteller can't really be about them making movies can it?

    1. dsjones

      dsjones

Amazon is a toddler who is swimming out into the deep end without any idea how to swim. Their Zombieland pilot proved that they aren't ready.

  7. And Hollywood is burning. A friend's car was torched last night in one of the dozen fires that were set. Love Street House looks gutted.

I read the entire manifesto thanks to anonymous. I didn't think it was that "poorly written"it came off as way more intelligent than I expected.

It does seem like something ripped right out of a movie.

Haha. And you shouldnt. It's your language, we're just borrowing it. And abusing it. Did you think about going 'home' for the Olympics? Evidently, a lot of empty seats - which is just wrong.

Nothing wrong with it - just don't here many people in the States referring to "adverts" on the tele.

Saw it. A friend leaned over and whispered: "It's the equivalent of a 12-year old virgin writing bondage porn". It was pretty posturing.

    3. ThaVillain

      ThaVillain

My DRIVE comparison is in the fact that the marketing for Drive promised Fast and the Furious and packed theaters with moviegoers expecting that, but the result was more of an "art house" film, if you will. Same thing here. A lot of folks went expecting HEAT or MIAMI VICE but instead got something totally different, thus the "F" Cinemascore.

    4. ThaVillain

      ThaVillain

Just looked it up. DRIVE got a "C-" Cinemascore. Not quite an "F" but still, audiences disliked it. It was my favorite movie of 2011. Pretty much everyone I recommended it to (friends, FB, Twitter) hated it. So yeah, I think the analogy applies.

  17. How low-budget/cheap is Soderbergh's Bitter Pill? The crew can't use overnight Fed-Ex and have to use three day delivery.

Logline: A presidential debate gets hijacked by terrorists and it's up to 5 audience members to save the candidates. The theme of the movie is "Don't mess with Jason Statham." Starring Jason Statham, Nic Cage, Jennifer Lawrence, Rosie O'donnel and Christopher Lloyd.

Just IMO, with the "aspiring screenwriting climate" the way it has been as of late, everyone is on the lookout for scams and ripoffs. In the words of Jamie Kennedy, EVERYBODY'S A SUSPECT!

    3. dietgreentea

      dietgreentea

It's hilarious to me how so many people have this notion that, in the writing world, the word "intern" -- which, in this case, barely even applies -- is somehow a powerful incentive…

    4. sangun

      sangun

Either it's a scam and there was a prior relationship that got the person the internship and CAA. Or the company is run by morons who didn't do a background check on someone they were attaching their names to in a press release. Either way.

  23. I like the idea that somewhere Stephen Sommers is sitting with his feet propped up drinking a mai tai.

I didn't hear about this?...I just remember really liking Stewart Beattie's first draft back when it was Delta Force.

    4. sangun

      sangun

The first film tested really well. Unfortunately for Sommers the phrase "tested better than both Transformer movies combined" got repeated a lot. Suddenly, a rumor appears on Don Murphy's message board that Sommers has been fired and the film is a disaster. It all played out so publicly it was kind of amazing. I've never seen a studio work so hard to sabotage a film in the home stretch.

  24. I think Ryan Reynolds just became the answer to a trivia question.
