  1. I often wonder what studio execs are thinking. Am I the only one who is not surprised that movies like Burnt and Our Brand is Crisis are flops?

If you believe their comments... Warners really wants to stay in business with Sandra/George, so happy to take on a passion project for her. Weinstein didn't invest much in Burnt and thinks it can do well overseas because of int'l cast. Both are small misses compared with say Pan or Seventh Son.

  2. After reading the reviews for Burnt, I wonder: What's worse, having your screenplay never made? Or having it turned it a terrible movie?

If it's terrible, just slyly blame the director or studio. That's why subtweeting was invented.

  4. Why shoot film if your movie is set to premiere on HBO anyway? And at the cost of TWO shooting days...?

Maybe Kodak is a sponsor? It also gives Jason a convenient excuse -- "if I only had two more days of shooting..."

  6. A lot of great screenwriting lessons can be gleaned from the musical Hamilton. Worth a listen on Spotify -- especially "My Shot"

  7. So wait, Sacha Baron Cohen ISN'T working on a Freedie Mercury biopic? Did someone even write one? And if they did can we freaking read it please?! How would THAT not be at the top of the black list...

  8. Any recommendations on a books or website that helps with the modern day blueprint of screenplays. I used to write comedies, but have transitioned to TV Dramas. However I have a drama Idea for a feature and would like to get reacquainted with screenplay structure as it looks today.

  9. Favorite films or scripts with just a few locations?

  10. so i just got a review gushing about the script on every level. Still a double consider. Don't know what else can be done.

Kenny Rogers once wrote a great song after he got a double consider.

  13. What older specs do you still read that blow you away that you can't believe aren't movies yet?

I believe Untitled Chef Project completed filming as Adam Jones. I prefer the former title.

  17. How come The File Exchange has been so dry of new scripts lately? Did they change the rules about posting?

The difference is all the tv pilots posted have been bought by networks. They're casting now. Very few specs have been bought yet.

  18. 2014 Hit List Recommendation: Remember by Benjamin August. It's slow and understated, but worth the journey.

StringerBell -- It's relative. This won't make piles of money compared with Ride Along. Will be interesting to see Get Hard B.O. Even Eddie Murphy/Jim Carrey eventually lost favor as quality of their films declined.

That being said, this doesn't really help Kevin Hart's stock. Like Melissa McCarthy, he'll eventually lose audience favor if he does too many poorly reviewed movies in a row.

It's tracking for $30 MM over four day weekend against a $23 MM budget. So it depends what your definition of "bomb" is.

Will be interesting to see if Kevin Hart fans turn out. Wedding related comedies usually rely on female auds (Wedding Crashers being rare exception)

Do WGA voters actually get to read all the scripts? I haven't seen a PDF of gotg, but have read the rest. How can you vote for a screenplay you can't read?

Anyone else ashamed they had to google "tsuris" to find out what it means?
