  1. I'm starting to sound like a TBS flack, but I'm really loving Search Party. This + People of Earth are right in my wheelhouse.

  2. Great article on why This is Us is doing well, Nielsen-wise http://www.vox.com/2016/11/29/13769520/this-is-us-ratings-nbc

The ability to thematically tie in the flashbacks to present day is a great engine for the show. Lot to be proud of on that writing staff.

I thought your review was very solid. It was hard to anticipate an actual audience existed for light drama + Milo's butt driving Facebook shares + Voice lead-in. Expect imitators this pilot season.

  5. Fun Fact: If you ever go on Done Deal Pro, the Forum with the most eyeballs is always Agents, Lawyers & Managers. People want to look for easy answers outside of themselves.

That being said, it's the most fun forum to read.

  6. People of Earth on TBS is a 10/10 for me. Great fit for the network. Pilot is up on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1mTImmx6Jk

  7. No one will agree (I don't think), but I love The Great Indoors. It's hysterical. http://www.cbs.com/shows/the-great-indoors/video/

  8. Atlanta has the best writing on television currently. Sad we have to wait 51 weeks to see if it will win the Emmy for comedy writing.

It's not ha-ha funny. But it feels special. And sometimes a subtle joke, set up early & paid off later, makes you forget how horrible the world is for a second.

"Makes my heart hurt it's so good" writing. That same feeling I'd get watching Breaking Bad.

  10. I'm sure I'm in the minority here and will probably get crucified for this, but I honestly do not get the hype for Stranger Things. It seems like the more people hype a show up all over social media the more let down I am by it when I finally get around to watching. Props to the writers for getting it going but I just was not engaged. Discuss.

We're reaching peak nostalgia embracing (witness awful Full House reboot being one of Netflix's most successful shows, if not MOST successful). People yearn for a simpler time.

Deadpool was leaked by the writers on purpose, so not a great example. I think the bigger fear is negative buzz -- like with Aloha, well ahead of release, due to the Sony hack. If a script is still under development and gets out there, it could slow development process.

Yeah, might be harder to get access now to newer ones. Here are 9 Olympics related ones, and I don't think I've seen any: http://mashable.com/2016/08/18/olympics-and-hollywood-sex-comedies-other-movies/#VY1wf6bZQSqw

  13. Feeling very cynical today. Working for a major was a childhood dream but tbh I can't stand the job :) Time to find something else to do.

When I was younger, my dad would say stop watching tv and read a book. I told him no. Now I like books > tv. Growing older is weird.

Yeah, he totally fell for that "good cop, bad cop" routine.

  18. Hi everyone, I just wanted to say goodbye of sorts, perhaps not forever. In a few days, I won't be renewing my TB subscription. I want to say thanks again to all the terrific members here and the happy sharing. Perhaps in a few months, I'll join back in. My Kindle is going to be hungry, I know... If anyone wants my email address, drop me a message in the next few days.

  19. Saw Independence Day 2 this morning. Good, enjoyable, not spectacular, not as good as the original but it was never going to be. What's really important to note is the diversity of the cast, and to an extent the setting. Men, women, black, Chinese, British, French. It's something we're all going to have think about as the box office changes.

Interesting that despite diversity + spectacle, ID2 did less business this weekend in China than Now You See Me 2.

  22. Grinder rests. I'm bummed. Really liked that show.

  23. I don't quite understand the economics of movie making. So many of the movie packages selling at Cannes seem non-commercial, despite the strong talent involved. Would love a comprehensive breakdown of $ paid at Cannes vs. foreign pre-sales recouped vs. box office performance.

Only Nashville surprised me. They screwed Castle by firing Stana Katic & Agent Carter's ratings were sagging. Unlike CBS/Supergirl, no secondary channel for ABC to show Agent Carter on + Hayley Atwell had Conviction in first position regardless.

As a for instance... a 2015 Black List scripted project called Boy starring Noomi Rapace is selling. Logline-wise, sounds very similar to Jeff Nichols' Midnight Special. That movie got 83% RT score, distributed by WB, and still only made $6MM worldwide on $18MM budget. So who is modeling that package as a good investment?
