  1. Thank you to whoever recommended Bloodline!

  2. So uh, yeah. Van Halen, man. Only in L.A. :)

Let's start debating how much Smashmouth grosses on tour with and without the fat guy with the soul patch.

  3. Best scripts with narration? Looking for a true masterclass in how narration should be executed. Prefer examples that are actually available here but whatever. Bring it!

  4. So Blacklist has been running their "Featured Scripts" for a good many months now. Can anyone shed any light on any progress with any of these scripts be it development of the script or the launch of the writers career in another aspect?

Sure, Scott. Here are pages on their site, not sure how up to date these credits are but they are numerous. Deals made: https://www.inktip.com/main_total_deals_closed.php Produced Films: http://www.inktip.com/main_films_produced.php?cat=&sub=credits

Sites like The Blacklist and Stage 32 are getting all the coverage these days but Inktip is still chugging along, doing their thing and facilitating deals for screenwriters. :-)

Scott, do you realize Inktip has led to hundreds of movies getting produced? Not major studio releases, but commercial films.

I'm very serious about keeping things confidential, so if you don't want me to share it, I won't. That may seem ironic considering the site we're currently on, but I'm serious. Thx!

Did you read the email from the Sony Marketing Chief on the Jobs script? He was really articulate and passionate, not at all what you expect when you hear all the complaints from filmmakers about how marketing ruins films. I'm not saying I think the marketing dept. should have too much of a say in creative, but it was surprising that he actually cared about the story, not just counting beans.

I haven't read Cleopatra, but on the surface, Scott Rudin seems dead-on in calling it a bloated vanity project that is a bomb just waiting to happen and could ruin careers. At this age, with his resume, I could see how he would want no part of it. He has nothing to prove.

Wow. TERRIBLE title, though. Not just that it doesn't seem to apply to the film, at all, but considering the racial climate here in the U.S. right now...not the best. :-0

Loved it. Every emotional beat was earned, for me. Loving connection between a father and daughter that transcends space and time = much better than Chinese aliens, any day!

Robert, there's no way you weren't surprised on multiple occasions. You could not possibly have predicted every plot point, as you claim. I hate when people say that, it's preposterous and nothing but arrogance. And if you did not see it in 70mm IMAX you did not see it. It's THAT impressive in that format (save a couple of shots that were out of focus, close-ups of McConaughey no big whup). I urge everyone who loves film to see it in 70mm Imax.

  12. New iPad EXTREMELY light and thin. Perfect for reading scripts with one hand. Compared weight to original mini and it was barely heavier. But, full size screen viewing without needing a stand for thickness or weight. Cool!

I'm no longer an Apple guy but I just may check it out, as I recently swore off reading scripts on the screen. It kills me to think of how much toner I'm wasting but I just have to force myself to print out pages more often as the reading experience is SO much better and easier. Maybe this will bridge the gap, but...how are the note features? I need to be able to write notes in the doc.

Loved the book, loved the film. But Affleck needs to stop skipping leg day in the gym. He's suffering from Hugh Jackman syndrome -- huge upper body, chicken legs. This of course did not deter my appreciation of the film, important as this issue obviously is. ;-)

Congrats PJ. On that note, I have a friend who has written a children's book that at one point had interest from Disney, but her agent died this year and it's stalled. Would you have a list of book agents who take unsolicited submissions I might be able to pass on to her? Thank you.

I was talking about Gotham with a friend and lamenting how if it were done on HBO, FX or basically any non-broadcast network it would have been SO much better. Such a great concept, almost there, but...it's Fox. Frustrating.

No offense, but industry folks don't even bother with the scripts that aren't top scored. They don't have time.

  23. I enjoyed watching Tyrant tonight, but what a blatant copy of The Godfather. Barry is Michael Corleone with a dash of season 1 Walter White. Jamal (modeled after Uday Hussein) will make a great rival to Barry.
