      Guess it depends on how similar in source material you are talking about. Titanic had many tv incarnations that told very similar stories about the real people on that ill-fated tugboat and the movie, from what I've heard was a moderate financial success (haven't heard if the director was ever able to get work after that movie went overbudget, though...)
