  1. Got a job in Colorado working for Comcast Spotlight. In other news, my student loans best be counting their days. I PLAN ON KILLING THEM FIRST.

  2. Wrote a script centering around a guy who makes a Faustian bargain with a creature he finds in a storage container, managed to make a little teaser for it:

  3. Okay... Best funky/jazzy/propulsive "heist" music to write to? Any suggestions?

Note: That's not actually the official companion soundtrack to the game (which I actually have, and is hard to get), but the tracks that were in the game, and weren't included on the soundtrack CD. If you find a copy of the album, it's a bit different, featuring a lot of spoken word bits ripped from the various characters in the game.

  5. What did you think of the Force Awakens? How would you rank the movie in comparison to the other Star Wars movies?

No, no real surprises here. But then again, I called "the big spoiler" a year ago on twitter.

Keep in mind I was also berated here for saying Interstellar was predictable.

I'm on the verge of saying it was paint-by-numbers, but man, it's very well crafted and well paced.

I think the Red Letter Media guys said it best: It's competent. Better than RoTJ, and accomplishes what it needs to to keep the series going: Likable characters having character drama in space.

  8. I don’t normally toot my own horn, but... my western script “DEATH OF A LEGEND” is the Grand Prize Winner in the StoryPros Screenwriting Competition, beating out almost 1,000 other screenplays. Tracking Board coverage from DB and JT helped me improve the script, so a very big thanks to them. I’m hoping the win will help me in my quest to find a manager.

  9. I know everyone is talking about the lists at the moment, but Ash vs The Evil Dead get so many things wrong. A few things right, but so, so much wrong.

      ...S and GRATING.

Seriously, their scenes are consistently the worst. Boring. Hamfisted. Obvious. Predictable. The best thing the series could do is just kill their characters off, and use it as emotional fodder for series 2.

The fights with the Deadites are consistently great, though, and that keeps me coming back. The design of some of the actual demons is fantastic.

Don't get me wrong; I'm glad we have the show. But Ash was never really this grubby womanizer with all the skills that we now see. He was just a regular, red-blooded guy, who was totally in over his head. More a bloody Buster Keaton.

There was even a tragic element to his character that this series doesn't capitalize on.

Ash in this series is more "Old Spice Bruce Campbell" than truly Ash.

And the two main supporting characters are OBNOXIO...

Site's back up. Technical issues resolved. Theme broke when a core update was downloaded. Needed some time to fix it.

I'll post a Siteground affiliate link here if/when I'm accepted into their affiliate program. I run my business with them, and they're staggeringly good. Customer support is outstanding there.

And just to reiterate a word of caution: Like, really, really know what you're doing. Like, You can use remote Linux terminals and chmod stuff.

If you don't know what I mean by that last sentence, please, stay far away from them. I think it costs me something like 30 cents a month to run my personal blog on their servers, but it was an absolute nightmare to get up and running.

  20. If I'm completely honest, I feel like I've lost my ability to write. I haven't been able to flow at the level I used to be able to in a very long time.

That said, I've worked and studied really hard for years to get better at this screenwriting stuff. Years of schooling and reading and writing and sacrifice.

None of that means I'm actually good at it, of course, but I don't think it was mere luck.

CB - Did you somehow see my rant on facebook about that particular celluloid abortion?

Adlocke - The thought has crossed my mind on more than one occasion, but I think life stuff has really interfered. The kind of stuff you just don't bounce back from quickly. I'll spare you the details.
