Been out of the country for a few weeks - where is everyone? How's the screenwriting going for y'all? Any major news to report out there?
-
Can anyone name some films with brothers on opposite sides of the law?
-
Thoughts on romantic comedies...good idea to write or don't waste my time?

Franco's CHILD OF GOD looks like a fuckin' comedy. Cormac must be a might displeased.

At this rate, there will be around 70 specs sold this year.- From BL: "Sony Pictures Entertainment acquires science fiction spec script “Leviathan” written by Cole Haddon. Haddon is repped by WME and Anonymous Content. By my count, this is the 30th spec script sale of 2014. There were 53 spec script sales year-to-date in 2013."

Congrats to Dominic and Matt on "The Controller"!!! http://www.tracking-board.com/the-controller-sales/

Exciting news! Got a gig doing a rewrite for a film already in the pipeline that has some serious potential but they're asking if I have an agent...which I don't. Any suggestions from any of my already repped friends?

Wish it was good screenwriting news to report, but it is still exciting. Got word from Temple that I will be fully funded in my doctorate program this fall! Now I'll have plenty of time to hack out queries to managers lol

loving these so far, keep them coming. particularly looking for anything along the lines of kaufman (eternal sunshine, BJM, adaptation, synecdoche), kon (perfect blue, millenium actress, paprika) , miyazaki (spirited away), kubrick (eyes wide shut, the shining, 2001), lanthimos (alps, dogtooth), 8 1/2, altered states, inception, shutter island, hiroshima mon amour, the matrix, vertigo, black swan, etc. foreign is a big plus!

Whenever I worry about writing, I read this and I remember it is a marathon and not a sprint: http://hollywoodjournal.com/personal-journeys/making-a-movie-is-easy-a-3‐step-process-that-worked-for-prisoners/20130917/

If you are an aspiring screenwriter who wants desperately to tell the stories that pop in your head at all hours of the day, the FUCKING IGNORE all this nonsense, about what is a sale and what isn't. Jesus. The people talking about this the most, won't be around in two years. Get a bottle. Stand in a lightning storm and pray you capture it. Or just write great stuff. You do the math.
