Always bothers me when I see an AMAZING Indie film, then find out the budget was five million dollars. Yeah. Indie. I'm looking at you Taking Shelter.

Indie means your financing doesn't come from any of the studios/media conglomerates. That's it. It has nothing to do with budget. Indie used to be a low-budget designation because filmmakers were lucky to raise a million in financing but with billionaires looking to buy an Oscar, foreign money and investment groups it's no longer true.

Review of 300 Years is up. Super late to the party? Yeah, but I wanted to post some thoughts about a positive script experience.

As I get ready for my LA move, someone suggested signing up for Extras Management or Central Casting to make money while I look for a job and network. Is this a good idea? Experiences?

Register with Central right away when you get to LA. You need to make an appointment, and check their website to make sure you bring the proper paperwork to your appointment. Then, be vigilant about calling the line several times a day to find out what's shooting for your demographic. You might also consider a calling service, but be careful; there are a lot of scams. It's not a great way to make a living, but it's money, and it's a great way to get on set and see how various...

As I prep for a move to LA, I'm looking for living suggestions. Thoughts? On a budget (i'm quitting my job to move), but I want to be close to the "action" and hopefully get an internship or a PA job right away. Thanks in advance!

Certain parts of North Hollywood, near Studio City, are very nice, and not too expensive. Burbank, Studio City, Sherman Oaks are all good places, though a bit on the expensive side.
I completely disagree about the "don't live in the valley" comment; it's not an ideal place if you go out a lot and want to party and all that, but, depending on what part of the valley you ultimately decide to call home, getting around really isn't that much trouble. And it's c...

Any interest on me reading the 230 page Cloud Atlas in the FE and doing a review?

Read two great scripts on drive from CO to AZ yesterday. The Bitter Pill (slow, but ends strong) and The Death of Archer Newman (awesome, odd last page, better graphic novel than movie. Not sure how it would work...).

Quick Review: Dear Satan was a really fun read and exactly what a spec should look like. At least one good job in ever new scene. Well done. 4/5.

Question to you all: I'm moving to LA in late December. What could I be doing NOW to make my resume look better? Learn Final Cut? Master Pro Tools? Learn how to write coverage? Thoughts and ideas please

Save your money before moving out (which you probably are doing) and intern for free for a couple of prodcos/agencies/networks/studios/etc in your home state that have ties to LA or that are shooting in your home state. Make some connections, get references - prove you are reliable and hard working... as well as nice to work along side of every day =)

Totally doing this:

Just read Snow White and the Huntsman (draft that sold). Mucho interesante. Didn't look too familiar in the trailer. How much was changed?

Has anyone on here (ANYONE) ever gotten a job that's posted in the jobs section? If so, can you tell us a bit about your experience?

My thoughts on Disciple Program and a rant about specs to go with it in the member section!

Should have a script review up soon. Can anyone recommend any good Fantasy scripts?

Reviewed Maleficent (spec with Angie Jolie attached) in the Member Reviews section. Check it out!

Well it took 4 months, but I watched every episode of Breaking Bad. You guys were right. That show is unreal.

I keep hearing creatives cite the show in interviews as an example of writing where you never know what's going to happen next. Ideally, every show should be like that, but I think in this case it's that they continually paint Walt into an impossible corner and then make us wait on the edge of our seat until they reveal his surprise escape.

I read Never After on the flight to Dublin. Lots of great ideas in it, but pretty weak on the delivery.
