I'm down. I'm in LA. Beer Belly or Biergarten in Koreatown have a large selection of beers.

I don't think the format is dead, but there is some merit to their idea. Viewing habits are changing, studios have so much invested in a film they are afraid to risk alienating the audience with an unsatisfactory ending. I love going to movies, but I am annoyed by the constant glare of cell phones in the crowd. I think theaters will always exist, but very few films on the big screen will have the influence like films of the past.

Predictability is a problem but I just saw a UK Michael Powell film from 1946 which was riveting in story and cinematography (Scorsese loves him)- David Niven in Matter of Life or Death - you're not certain if the drama is real or supernatural till the 2/3 point and perhaps not even then.

Perhaps a problem for screenwriters and older people who have seen way too many movies. But the core audience is neither. Average movie goer will continue to be entertained IMO.

Writing going well. Getting PAID for my writing? That's been better in previous years. I was a more successful screenwriter in Virginia than I am now in Los Angeles. No meetings either.

That last Adam Sandler movie I liked -- and that I thought he was giving a lot of effort -- was the first half of Funny People. Bedtime Stories, I thought, was OK for what it wanted to be.

These are becoming quite popular, particularly with scripts where tone is important. I did it myself with one of mine. While it is incumbent upon you as a writer to nail a good tone in the script, a good lookbook helps those who are visually, imagination challenged. I won't name names.

How about giving each character their own unique way of speaking. I wish I was better at it and the vast majority of amateur scripts have the characters all speaking the same way.

I keep hearing creatives cite the show in interviews as an example of writing where you never know what's going to happen next. Ideally, every show should be like that, but I think in this case it's that they continually paint Walt into an impossible corner and then make us wait on the edge of our seat until they reveal his surprise escape.

  12. This morning I learned that drinking during a 3rd draft rewrite clouds judgement. Gin should be drank during first drafts only!

I would think - first draft, a celebratory drink at the end, second draft drinking all the way through because everything now feels so wrong, and third draft a celebratory drink at the beginning for getting there :-)

Loki was never a huge villain, at least from what I saw. He's the god of mischief, not evil. They needed a villain like Galactus, the eater of worlds. The villain is just as important as the heroes in an action movie.

    4. Nic.Lishko

      Nic.Lishko

The thing I liked about the trailer was that virtually nothing was told or shown. I would bet he's not the only villain, that would be a tad ridiculous...
