  1. Waiting to get your coverage back is an awful, awful wait.

    1. axalon

I was on a date once when I received coverage. She went to the restroom, I checked my phone and there it was.

The amount of will power I demonstrated the rest of the night was incredible.

  5. Pilot: Done. Animated spec: Done. One to go for queries. Question: When querying a TV pilot, do you also submit a bible or just the pilot?

You should have a succinct bible with key character profiles available upon request. At the end of the day you'll need to demonstrate series longevity. You should at least have loglines for a full season. I thought I saw a detailed pitch for The Wire uploaded to the library.

    2. Nic.Lishko

I appreciate you George. Thanks a ton!

    3. n.keetch

If you're just querying agents and managers then a bible isn't strictly necessary. They want to see good writing. If they think you're idea is worth taking out to producers then they'll ask you to produce a series treatment/pitch/bible. The extent of what you will need varies, but you see people offering pretty in-depth show breakdowns these days (especially from writers who aren't established).

  6. They're filming Silicon Valley at the hotel I'm at. Stood around and watched for an hour. This has been such a cool day.

  7. Damn. Didn't get into the Universal Fellowship. If any of ya'll did, CONGRATS!

You're a Good Sport, Charlie Brown.

I've always wondered this. Thanks for asking Charlie, and thanks for answering Red!

The town starts to soft shut down the Monday before Thanksgiving, and the week following it's all but zombies at the office.

  9. Saw Frozen last night. Met the writer/co-directors. Was awesome.

    1. CastorTroy16

      You met Adam Green…?

    2. Nic.Lishko

Close. Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee.

  10. Clocking in at 89 pages, the fastest first draft I've ever done for my first Horror/Thriller. It's not great by any means, but hoorah, it's done. FOR NOW.

  11. Apparently foreign distributors are really interested in the horror thriller spec I've been working on this summer and want the script ASAP. Has anyone else had to rush write a script before?

    1. twofingeredtypist

      Exciting! Best of luck, Charlie!

    2. chandolaswinter

make sure it's working, otherwise it's better to wait until it's ready. I learned that lesson!

    3. Nic.Lishko

I hammered out a beat sheet all the producers were really into last night. So I'm going off of that. Want to talk about that a bit more Chando?

  13. Writing is fun. Trying to write? Not so much.

There is no try... only do.

  14. It's a "slam your head into the keyboard day and pray that words come out" kind of a day.

  15. A buddy of mine is in the amateur offering's of scriptshadow this week. Take a look at Breaking News on scriptshadow.

  16. Guys (and gals). Go read Frank. Seriously.

  17. Guys and Gals...I need some awesome horror scripts please. I just had a crazy meeting with producers who want to produce a horror film, but refuse to watch them.

GRIM NIGHT is family-oriented and sold for mid-6 if I recall.

    2. Escapist

STRANGERS 2 is a great read as well - no idea why they haven't made it yet...

    3. Nic.Lishko

Thanks peeps! I just rewatched Sinister for the 3rd time. Such an excellent flick.

  18. Working on making stuff happen. Submitted a script to the TB Writer's group, looking for thoughts!

  19. Vacations over, it's time go job hunting. Anyone need a PA?

    1. ddollar

Can you work for free CB? My friend is shooting a web series this weekend and needs two PAs I believe.

    2. ddollar

Food will be provided, possibly money - I can find out for you.

    3. Nic.Lishko

Sure, let me know what they say!

  20. Anyone have any lookbooks or scripts with them inside? I know Can A Song Save Your Life kind of has one in the first three pages....

    1. Jaco

CB - the Controller - posted in WIP - has a lookbook.

    2. Nic.Lishko

Just checked it out Jaco. Pretty slick!

    3. Mike

These are becoming quite popular, particularly with scripts where tone is important. I did it myself with one of mine. While it is incumbent upon you as a writer to nail a good tone in the script, a good lookbook helps those who are visually, imagination challenged. I won't name names.

  21. Script I worked on all summer and turned into Universal? Turns out a title with a "the" in front of it sold last month for a tv series. I think mine is still different enough...:/

    1. Nic.Lishko

      Send me your email George!

Nothing is wrong with it Axalon. I've done it and it was great. Just don't want to keep paying when I got no job and no money. I will querify four management companies if I don't get the fellowship at universal I applied for. :-D

    2. sangun

I don't think it's a bad thing at all to show that you're on-trend when applying for a fellowship.

    3. Nic.Lishko

      Thanks Sanguine! I think you're right :D
