  1. Writing Partner and I wrote a Rom-Com, need some feedback. Logline: A once happy couple on the verge of divorce find they can't split until it's decided who gets to keep the dog they both love; and they'll do anything to keep him.

Nice George! Went to Rock Bottom instead. Great Christmas brew. If you're going through Pitt's airport, there's a bar that has Founder's Breakfast Stout. Pretty awesome.

I hammered out a beat sheet all the producers were really into last night. So I'm going off of that. Want to talk about that a bit more Chando?

  5. Script I worked on all summer and turned into Universal? Turns out a title with a "the" in front of it sold last month for a tv series. I think mine is still different enough...:/

Nothing is wrong with it Axalon. I've done it and it was great. Just don't want to keep paying when I got no job and no money. I will querify four management companies if I don't get the fellowship at universal I applied for. :-D

I was so shocked when the first Passengers trailer came out...it looked like a really expensive perfume commercial. Or like that fake movie they were talking about in Thank You For Smoking with Angelina Jolie smoking in space.

This is the second good script Morten Tyldum has made a bland realization of.

      Thanks a lot, Charlie!

Full disclosure, I wrote a steampunk/gearpunk pilot with two other friends that has been very favorably received and we're looking to potentially turn it into a graphic novel or a comic book series as the budget would be high and no one would take a risk on it.

We were planning 13 episode seasons and about 5 or 6 seasons worth of story. Advice from friends in the business suggest going the comic route so we're exploring it currently and are just in...

    4. Charlie

      Charlie

No problem. Checkout Lady Mechanika or Iron West for steampunk comic examples. Even the Trigun anime has steampunk elements. Good luck with the adaptation.

  9. One of the first scripts I ever tackled was an adaptation of Ocarina of Time. Netflix, give me the job.

Glad to hear it was a good flick. He went on a little rant and got over it lol. Just the initial idea of kids fighting and using their imaginations is what he says was his idea. But I know there's no grounds there.

When I get "stuck" I just write a scene of something completely unrelated to whatever it is I'm working on -- like a James Bond intro or maybe Michelle Yeoh kicking some ass... whatever forces creativity.. and then I transition into project at hand. Maybe I still end up with crap but you know you sometimes gotta get it all out before the gems emerge. Write on!

  17. I gotta say, the cinematography in the last episode of Breaking Bad was BEYOND amazing. Seriously. A camera guy can learn a lot from this show.

Bryan Cranston said that Vince Gilligan told him from the outset that the show was about going from Mr. Chips to Scarface. Funny how Scarface ended with Pacino firing grenades from an M-16, and Walter White begins this season by buying an M-60, another heavy machine gun. "The Last Stand of Heisenberg?" Who will be dead at this point -- Jesse, Hank, Lydia, his wife, kids? I think SAUL will be the lone survivor, and slink off into the distance holding a bag full of $100 million. :-)

I totally agree and that's why I chose to use him. He's a screenwriter as well and probly won't be doing coverage much longer since he's close to getting a few big projects moving. He posts over on Done Deal as EvilRbt and his site is screenplaymechanic.com. If you want, I could send you a sample of the last coverage he did for me that really helped when I rewrote the script.

      Nic.Lishko

LOL. I listen to all the working writers talk about how fast it takes them to write a draft and I think shit, I'm going so damn slow! A good outline really does help write a hell of a lot faster, I will say that.

    3. aphid47

      aphid47

I agree about the outline. I had a 121 page first draft, let sit over the holidays, then cut it down to 95 pages. I'm letting it sit a couple of weeks before I give it a 3rd pass to iron out some of the changes I made.
